Do I need to buy BFA?

If the last expansion I paid for was cataclysm, can I create a new character and just level to Cata’s level cap then decide if I want to continue by paying for BFA?

You do not need to get BfA to play the game that you are currently subscribed for. That is, you can play up to cap on whatever expansions you have. It’s entirely your choice whether you get the following expansions.

you have access to all content up to BFA with your standard sub.

this includes MoP, WoD and Legion.

you only need to purchase BFA if you want to level past 110

Base game, right now goes up to Legion so the max you can hit is 110 AND you have access to Demon Hunter.

I had left in cataclysm as well and came back shortly after the release of BFA. I had been giving access to everything up to and including Legion when I resubbed when I came back. I did have to purchase BFA though to continue.

Thank you all. So just have a subscription gives me access up to 110?

Yes and if you wait a while BFA will probably go on sale when Shadowlands get released.

Just so you know, when Shadowlands release you will have access to BFA right away so if you’re patient to wait about a year, you’ll get that content FREE!

link to official confirmation on this?

They been doing this since MoP, adding the previous expansion to the base game when a new expansion comes out. It did this for WoD the day Legion released, they did it for Legion when BFA released. There is no doubt BFA will also become base game content when Shadowlands comes.

so it’s an assumption.

ok, just checking.

Yeah they have been doing it every time but doesn’t mean for sure, it used to not be this way, I remember paying a lot for BC even when wrath was out.
