Do i need better cooling?

So a few days after Christmas, i finally got my hands on an RTX 3070 and it finally works. Colorful GeForce RTX 3070 NB-V more specifically. And it runs fantastically, just wish the games i actually do play have ray tracing, ReShade can only help so much, but hey, general performance upgrade is always welcome in my book.

With that said, this has never crossed my mind until after i got the card, but when i feel my hand near the spot where the air flows out while playing the game, it does feel … slightly warm. At idle right now as i write this, it’s hovering an average of 30 to 35 Degrees Celsius. Or 86 to 95 Fahrenheit. And also, as the time of writing this, i’m playing Far Cry 6, which is a very recent game i got and while playing, i couldn’t help but notice in MSI atferburner that the temps reach to 40c to 55c. or 104f to 131f.

This is even after cranking the settings from ultra to high and disabling the AMD CAS sharpening thing, and even making my custom fan speed to go much higher. As in, 10C, it’s 40% fan speed. 52C, it’s 100% fan speed. And noise isn’t an issue since my computer is under neath me, it’s on a mobile stand to easily move and air flow.

I know this isn’t a particularly an alarming temperature to some, but i’m wondering if 50 C means i need to get a better cooler then the stock GPU or some other sort of cooler to attach to keep the thing cooler?

Edit: Pardon the constant edits, but i want to ensure accuracy of my concern… That and i’m Bari.

Edit 2: Okay i picked up on the fan speed at 100%.

Edit 3: Also, disabling the FXFidelity Super resolution made the temp higher somehow. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

quick googling said that max temp for a 3070 is about 93c(?) so i think you’re good. what case model do you have? maybe a case with better airflow will help

If it is simply a case (heh) of needing a bigger case, then hopefully transferring the mobo with it’s stuff attached over to that one wouldn’t mess up anything.

looking at the case… is the side fan blowing in or out? from what i read, side fans works best as blowing air in/intake.

other than that, i would suggest a case with at least 2 front intake fans. brings more cooler air into the case to cool down the GPU

I have this case. It’s large, but as the name indicates, HAF (High Air Flow). Cooler Master also has other HAF cases that are smaller, but this one is great because the motherboard lays horizontal. I can put a very large CPU fan and not have gravity pushing on the heatsink.

It is big, but very easy to work inside, and if you want a smaller one, they have other HAF’s that are smaller.

Out. Hovering my hand over it, i can feel it going out. Also important to note, i had that fan replaced because of a frayed wire.

Oh. So just flip it around or something?

yeah just flip the fan around
