Do I lose something not playing a Panda?

I have a 27 Nelf monk because I thought the Quickness racial would be helpful for tanking. But I see a lot of monks are Panda, and I’ve heard people say they just work better with the Monk mechanics.

Any issues with going with a non-Panda race in your opinion? Or is it all a bunch of hype and non-sense?

No you don’t lose anything, people who say pandas should only be monks are close minded. Play what you want my man, don’t let others decide your path for you.

You lose any real racial connection to your class because MoP introduced the class centered around Pandaren. Then Legion furthered that notion by making the monk order hall LITERALLY the turtle all the horde and alliance pandas came from. Covered with pandas everywhere. Couple trolls and elves etc here and there. Then me, Grandmaster Void Elf. Talk about not recognizing what you see in the mirror!

Pandaren animations are great and pair really well with monk animations. It’s aesthetically better in my opinion but not required in anyway and your not missing out on anything.

Nope, i chose a panda for the aesthetics later, my first monk was a human. I used the free boost from legion on this toon when i switched servers.

I only picked pandaren because i saw one with the Brm artifact and thought it looked great on the pandaren race. Plus i feel like my tmog would not look as good on a different race.

Now i simply like the idea of being a panda traveler. I thought about RP’ing this toon at one time

Don’t let people tell you monks are better off Pandaren.

Pandaren Monks are better off Pandaren themed, but the only thing restricting you to the Pandaren theme is your own perceptions. There’s no reason you can’t interpret your abilities entirely differently - there’s no reason my Night Elf monk, for instance, can’t use Ashamane’s Claw, instead of Fist of the White Tiger, or Gift of Ursol or Roaring Bear Stance instead of Gift of the Ox or Sturdy Ox Stance, or things like that. It’s all just ability skins in the end, and part of an RPG is using your imagination!

Monk lore is very flexible, easily interpreted for just about every other race so long as you’re willing to work your imagination a bit. They are, in essence, just spiritualistic warriors. That’s universal.

It’s just an issue of class fantasy, has no real gameplay impact outside of aesthetics which is subjective anyway.

Not much outside of aesthetics and some handy racials.

The racials are all pretty much equal across the board it all comes down to how you want to look. Pandaren is always my top choice for any class they can be, but that’s just me.

The Nelf dodge isn’t huge? I can’t personally figure out if it helps or screws the BM mastery.

Defensively all the racials are fairly similar. Pandaren may not game Dodge, but the extra stats we gain from food make up for it on other ways. Because of how our mastery works an extra 2% Dodge is very little in the long run.
