I am curious because I have a stubborn paladin claiming videos of top guilds using paladins to tank in raids like MC, BWL, AQ, ZG, when generally all guild, including top guilds will use warrior tanks and druid off tanks. Especially with speed clearing 1 night 2-3 raids in a row. I know paladins will be useful of Nax, but honestly don’t see the point in prot paladins for other raids, when their single target healing is more useful.
uh, no. all paladins come to our raids as healers. paladins can tank naxx? that’s news to me
I think with Naxx having so many undead, paladins with their holy wrath and exorcisms would come in quite handy there.
If you mean as a healer then yes, they will be very useful in Naxxramas. They can not tank any raid bosses that require a taunt to drop a debuff.
Back in the day we had a token prot-pally. He healed everything but the gauntlet on the way to Fankriss.
Paladins all heal with the token Ret pretending to be a dps.
In vanilla my guild used a paladin tank after they were geared properly for it. It was more of a fun thing to do when we allowed them to main tank bosses that we’re on farm. It is possible, but more of a utility tank for AoE trash on fights. When TBC Classic drops though paladin tanks are viable. Mechanically in Classic, it’s just not viable without some jank involved such as a fast kill to overcome taunt mechanics.
I hope Blizzard at least tries to come up with a better name than TBC Classic. lol
No paladins are bad tanks, their mitigation is terrible, they don’t have a taunt, they have a terrible mana pool for tanking in vanilla. Warriors with thunder fury remain the best tanks even after TBC since their threat with thunder fury is still amazing with feral tanks being a good second option in TBC.
Paladins get a mountain of crit in naxx that makes them amazing healers, most palladins in naxx are going to be there to bomb heals.
Paladins are great tanks in TBC, that’s who started the whole aoe tanking thing, particularly started with Shattered Halls heroic.
We have one but we are not hardcore. He does any AOE tanking that is beneficial, like tanking all 8 Garr adds, or the technicians, or all the whelps in the suppression room.
But he spends most of his time healing.
Prot Pallies are niche, but they do work. We have one in our guild, very useful for AOE threat. Blessing spam is actually busted if you have more than 8 of 1 class,
Let’s hope they get a better name than TBCC.
I can’t tell if this is sarcasm…
Paladins are fully capable of tanking Nax.
This is untrue, Taunt is not necessary. It’s merely a facilitation to overtake threat.
Taunt is unfortunately required in some fights. (Shrug)
Explain how Patchwerk/4 horsemen are going to work without taunt? O_o
holy cow, everything you said is factually wrong.
- Their mitigation is more than enough to raid tank.
- Taunt is not necessary.
- Mana is not an issue or very very rarely.
- No duh, warrior are better tanks, they overly compensate in every aspect so they’ll succeed no matter how many mistakes the raid makes.
BoP, lip, leap frog threat. Game isn’t that hard bud, it’s been figured out to a point where even Shamans can raid tank up t’ill Naxx.
Remind me what the cooldown on BoP is in 1.12? Feels like it wouldn’t be usable anywhere near often enough?
