One of the things I was most excited about experiencing in Classic was engaging 5-man content while leveling.
I have completed Ragefire Chasm, Wailing Caverns, Shadowfang Keep, and Blackfathom Deeps as both a DPS and Tank, and maybe I’ve just been playing with fantastic groups, but I’m not really finding any challenge in the content. In fact it’s several degrees easier than just questing solo.
Bosses are all simple tank-and-spanks, trash is simple and unthreatening, and I haven’t seen any need for even simple tactics like CC or interrupts. Aggro is a bit more finicky but enemies don’t really even do enough damage to punish pulling aggro from the tank severely.
Do dungeons get more difficult as you rise in level, or was I just woefully misinformed regarding the state of 5-man content in vanilla?

There are no real mechanics in these dungeons and players are a bit better now
As long as peeps pay attention and keep on top of stuff it’s not so bad

This thread got real weird
Dungeons were nerfed throughout vanilla, and by 1.12 are much easier. The same with raids. The content we are experiencing is the watered down version called “classic”.

The dungeons up until scarlet monastery doesnt/didnt even need a properly spec or geared tank or properly spec’d or geared healer. Even then it isnt until Cathedral that you start to notice.
And I’m talking pre 1.12 as well.

How can they be hard there is no mechanics. LoS casters and don’t pull too many.
Vanilla is easy there is almost no challenge to PVE content.

I was around in vanilla but really haven’t gotten a big taste of classic 5 mans yet. About to ding 30 and all I’ve ran was Deadmines once.
Challenging? Not really. I did sheep a few mobs and after we downed VC we went to jump off the ship down to Cookie… and the huntard who by his own admission was new didn’t dismiss his pet and aggroed the entire ship.

I’ll probably run SM next… but if I don’t do any dungeons till 50+ I’m fine with that too. My favorite is Stratholme. Could care less about Mara and Uldaman… etc…
Dungeons didn’t get mechanically interesting until TBC. In fact, many bosses in TBC dungeons reuse mechanics from Vanilla raids, which was quite interesting the first time around.
So no, they don’t really get harder. Back in the day, your dps would hit different mobs, your tank would only keep track of 1-2 targets, your healer would forget to heal the dps. That’s why Classic is so much easier.

No they really don’t get harder but there are ways to challenge yourself. Do a dungeon at the lowest possible level is an example. Do it when quests are red as opposed to green, etc. That’s just one example. You make your own adventure in classic.

I’ve been playing with a friend, and I think we’re just going to try duo-ing dungeons on our alts for fun.

No they do not because your used to M+ and stuff where dungeons have more mechanics like the witches in waycrest which is x100 harder then any dungeon classic has to offer due to simplified mechanics. You know them all so it’s a joke.
Yeah I figured Classic dungeons wouldn’t be as challenging as Mythic+, but the way people described them made me think they were a mild version of Cata pre-nerf dungeons.

I mean… depends on what level you enter the dungeon with… and yea, the dungeons do get more difficult the higher the level.
But if you are used to high mythic+, then it’s not that experience… nothing in classic is like that, it’s a different game. The difficulty in dungeons is mainly about paying attention and good strategy.
You can always make it harder by pulling more and making the run faster.
And you can always make it easier by overleveling it, meta specing, and methodically trudging through it.
This isn’t anything like it was back when the content was released, and for most of the game. CC was paramount and it wasn’t uncommon to wipe for hours in places like Scholomance.
Everything is severely nerfed and players are more powerful by default. Classic is a sad shadow of a great game.
Yeah I was interested in the classic dungeons since so many people for months trashed mythic + calling it brain dead aoe fest.
I wanted to see all the strategy and work people talked about and how every pack required cc.
Didnt really live up to the hype. Still a lot of fun though.
Maybe if it wasnt 1.12 content then i would have been able to experience the dungeon experience people always talked about.
