Do damage meters ruin the game?

Is anything really fair? If people choose to subject themselves to randos, they gotta take the good and bad with it. There’s plenty of opportunity to avoid the pug scene with a very minimal amount of effort.

I mean thats a very broad question, I’m asking how is it fair to determine someones worth as a player strictly from what the meters say.
