Do BFA (KT&Zuld) rares not drop gear at 120 anymore?

Since hitting 120 on a number of alts i have noticed that all item drops from BFA rares in Zulduzar and Kul Tiras has completely stopped. From 110-119 you kill a rare that has a drop that is appropriate for your class and its your first kill on that rare (still silver dragon), it drops with a 100% drop rate. But at 120 when you kill a rare (still first kill) that should drop an item for your class it drops nothing but that tiny bit of azerite and maybe some gold/vendor trash.

This was certainly not the case for even this entire expansion as i can rememeber when i hit 120 on my main, this warrior, i would occasionally get 2 items from these rares if there was a world quest up on that rare scaled for a 310 or whatever. I’d also loot the rare and get a 273. I know a tonne of my guild had the same thing because people were constantly asking in guild chat why they had gotten a 273 and a 300+ version of the same item off a world quest.

Did blizzard ever mention that they were planning to put in this nerf, or put it in the patch notes that rares on the 2 islands no longer drop loot at 120? Because right now to collect all of the transmogs you need to have an alt below 120 run around the 2 islands and kill all the rares that drop items of your armor type/weapon type. Either that or you have to wait for the item to appear as a world quest reward, which for a lot of these mogs has not happened so far 6 months into the expansion.

As a collector thats pretty damn irritating.

I don’t know where that drop chance is pulled from, but almost every single rare I killed while leveling were just green azerite shards.

I’m going to guess that getting the two pieces at max level was the bug, and not the other way around.

I assume that if it was changed after the initial launch of the xpac, it was to prevent people from just ignoring all the rares until they hit 120 and then going around killing them, hoping for a lucky war/titanforge (especially on the trinkets and weapons).

The rare will only drop an item if it’s appropriate for your class. Otherwise it will just be artifact power.

Each rare has its own drop associated with it. For example the rare Avalanche in Drustvar drops a plate chest called the Gryphon Riders breastplate. If you are anywhere between 110 and 119 and are on a class that wears plate it drops 100% of the time on your first kill of the rare.

Still in drustvar there is a rare named Rimestone who drops a pair of leather shoulders called the Coldsnap Paul Ron’s. If you are a plate wearer you will get just the azerite shard as you can’t use leather. But if you are a leather wearer between 110 and 119 it’s a 100% drop rate on your first kill of that rare.

At 120 these drops cease completely. For a Time at the beginning of the expansion these items capped out at 273 (though I think they had to warforge the same as quest items bringing them to 281 or something) or 280 of it was azerite armor. but now to get these items, and their associated transmog, you need to find a lookalike or wait for that item to appear as a world quest reward for killing that rare.

Hope this clears up what I am talking about.

I rarely got a drop. Always that tiny shard of azerite.
