Do better with UI

Continuing the discussion from WTF I used the most simple addons:

Blizzard has known they were going to kill these useful addons for a while now and had plenty of time to get something ready to replace them that was similar in design and functionality. Instead they took a poop on top of their crap UI and made it a double poop UI. Maybe those subscription fees should be dropped as low as the quality of their designs. Its time they pay us to play. Come on do better. Didn’t learn anything from the “don’t you all have phones “ mess.

So I’ve been using elvUI for years. Took a break and just came back and decided to give the default UI a chance. The default nameplates alone are awful.
I don’t get why they haven’t just assimilated some of the more common sense UI elements.

Like you, I removed ElvUI and went with the base UI.

Made some adjustments to them via options and found them to work well enough.
Saying they are horrible without providing any details or reasons why doesn’t offer much in the way of feedback.

They’re ugly blank bars and I struggled to see what I even have targeted.
I shouldn’t have to manually setup nameplates when other addons work correctly right out of the box. This isn’t some indie company, things should work out of the box and tweaked to preference, not “work ok after tweaking”

They’re trash. What feedback needs to be offered up? They can’t even accomplish customization we had back in BC.

  • Animation that can’t be turned off. Swapping between targets gives me a migraine.
  • Stacking plates are drunk and all over the place if you have it on
  • Tons of information I don’t need and can’t turn off. Why can’t I turn the target name off?
  • Ambiguous tool tips… “highlight important casts” WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN? lol!
  • Lack of buff priority and lack of filtering.
  • Hiding nameplates when target off the screen.

The list is long.

ElvUI looks like crap too. See how useless that is? Here, I’ll improve and give some actual reasoning: If I wanted everything to be squares and rectangles then I’d go play Excel.

The default nameplates LOOK fine, the problem is functionality not appearance. Addon’s can’t fix functionality that isn’t implemented to begin with.

I learned today that you can add details windows into a chat tab instead of floating out on their own and it makes my UI look much better.

Details → Options → Skins → Chat Tab Embed
