For the sake of your playerbase’s sanity. Pvp gear and Pve gear alike. Just do away with this grindy upgrading system. If your trying to achieve player retention, shoot for more variety of the core of the game, more dungeons, more raids, more bg types and arena types. Focus more on the player having fun than just endless upgrade grinds to gear we already have. Please.
Could not disagree any more.
If it wasn’t for the M+ valor upgrade system, I would probably have quit. Raiding every week and seeing no drop (or duplicates of items I’m already wearing) is not fun.
Upgrading M+ definitely saved the season for me.
Would you not have rather just got new gear from new dungeons to experience?
So instead of upgrading any piece you want that may have bis secondaries you want to go back to having to choose between a bis piece with lower ilvl and a non bis piece with a few more ilvl? That’s idiotic. Grind the currency to upgrade or grind new pieces. If you want better gear you gotta grind it out and the upgrade system is objectively better. Doesn’t mean we can’t have new dungeons and stuff
I guess I’m focused more on fun then always being at peak performance. Why make gear at all in this case. Just upgrade your base Stat template.
What are you suggesting though? That gear has 100% drop rate?
The upgrade system was put in place to balance out bad luck RNG.
Upgradeable gear I thought was a thing to quell the people who wanted more targetable and progression on the gear or something along those lines. I’m fine with it but I think their mindset is just ‘‘We need to have people working towards things because our numbers show it is what works’’ but don’t really grasp the scope of what can actually be fun, what can expand the world…
Or maybe all people want is new dungeons and raids… and I’m completely outta the loop.
I’m suggesting that if blizz put more time into new dungeons, raids, bgs, arenas. More variety in those areas instead of grinding a currency always. The game may not be dieing like it is
Different non-stat related effects, i.e. on use effects, different armor visuals, pieces for off specs. Just because you didn’t think this through doesn’t mean it doesn’t make sense.
But it’s not working. The playerbase has been falling since legion.
I guess I’m the minority here. No wonder the game is dying.
Upgradeable gear isn’t the problem.
It’s people finally realizing what WoW is about and they go for greener pastures. Upgradeable gear isn’t why people are leaving. Nor is the amount of instanced content the issue.
People are starting to get tired of what WoW has mostly always offered, the jig is up, the template is known to everyone and the carrot is there to be continually chased.
It could be partly that too.
Yeah I totally agree with that. I think it’s unrealistic to think that Blizz can pump out multiple new dungeons every patch in addition to a new raid but I do think that they need to put a focus on content that is more about fun and less about gearing.
I find myself more often logging on to do content because I need to do it in order to have “x” items to raid or progress or whatever rather than logging on just to have fun.
Ion: I do no compute boop bleep boop
I mean you’re not wrong. Every patch is an endless cycle of gearing up and then starting from scratch.
Do away with being unable to hide leg armor.
I prefer upgradeable gear. You are at least rewarded directly for your efforts instead of praying for a stupid RNG drop.
One of the original wow devs reacted to Ion’s Q&A in BFA and called him out that the guy just doesn’t understand how to design ‘fun’ content that isn’t just analytics-based in origin. Even said he comes off as this cold - computer trying to become sentient to understand and connect with people.
The minority being those who don’t understand things but shoot their mouth off anyway? No unfortunately not…
