Do achievement points REALLY matter?

Seems like it’s just a rough estimate of how much content you’ve done, but most achievements aren’t particularly difficult to get so it’s weird because a top end raider would only have a few achievements if raiding is all they want to do. It’s like Variety Points, almost. If you want to maximize AP you dip into a little of everything, but if you are past a certain point of AP- and this point changes every patch- then it’s undoubtedly impressive because you’re past all the “easier” achievements for sure, and at least have some of the true AP hunter ones. It’d be nice if we had some kind of cosmetic reward at 10k, 20k, etc to spice up the competition a little, but i’ve also seen a really weird amount of judging on these forums on the basis of AP so… it’s kinda an odd spot.

Some of the achievements showcase skill (Mythic raid achievements, high PvP rating, etc), but for the most part achievements is just an optional side-grind.

It’s mostly a for-fun thing for collector/completionist types.

Just a form of playing the game for a growing number of players but they don’t really matter, no.

Does anything really matter? It’s all about personal goals and interests.

Nothing really matters, anyone can see. Nothing really matters to me.

Yep, usually something I do end of expansion when most other things are accomplished.

Like in the last month of BFA I spent time running around getting achievements I didn’t already have. Think I still have a rare or two to kill to finish it off.

Nothing matters when we are all sent to the maw.

Yes they matter obviously

If I have more than you, it means I’m better at the game than you

If you have more than me, it means you have no life

Achievement points don’t matter, but for me I enjoy collecting them, pets, toys, etc. Its part of what keeps me interested in the game. The game itself doesn’t really matter. Its a bunch of pixels that could be shut down tomorrow, but that doesn’t mean everyone should quit playing.

If they matter to you, then yes they do.

Eh, not really.

I leave almost every expansion, so there’s likely a ton of stuff each time that I skip out on.

Most of the achievements I had are from Wrath or earlier, when my friends still played and I actually cared about my own collections and stuff a bit more because of that.

Feats of Strength are really the only achievements that ‘matter’, and likely only to the person that earned them.

Any time I feel like I ran out of stuff I want to do, I check the achievements menu and that usually gets me out of my personal content droughts. In BFA I finally started doing pet battle content.

The achievement points are inconsequential to me. I don’t do achievements for the nerd points, I do achievements to keep things fresh.

Ahh! Yes! Like sand through the hourglass, so are the Days Of Our Lives!

They don’t matter. It’s just a reminder of how much of time wasted playing a videogame lol. Achievement points are just vanity points for the most part.

It helps me find content that I didn’t know about and work towards a few. I look at ppl with high numbers as more knowledgeable and frankly a better measure of being a mentor.

I hate being sent to the Maw. The parking sucks, the food court never has good selections, the restrooms aren’t maintained, and the only store I’m interested in is Gamestop…

No, sadly they don’t. Guild Wars did this better with small chest rewards for collecting achievements. In Wow, they’re almost all meaningless.

Only ones that matter to me if they give a pet/title/mount. Gone are my days of me collecting them for collection sake.

There are very few achievements I remember fondly. My Glory of the Raider achievement in Wrath where I earned my 310% plague proto-drake, and finally getting an AB win within 10 points of each other and earning my battlemaster’s title.

I forgot to add “dude” to the end of my quote.
