Do accounts get deleted when we die?

Just wondering. I know Steam will delete accounts and they can’t get passed on, but I’m not sure how Blizzsoft will handle it.

Use a death certificate and proof you are related to the deceased, then blizzard will transfer the account to you

Does steam constantly look every person up to see if they’ve died? What about the accounts that don’t have legit names? I’m actually interested*

After about 100 years I’m going to assume they just do it.

I was curious about this, like in 1 hand my son has never played any Blizzard games… in the other though he knows my characters, and history of playing this game for over 15 years now… is leaving something like that allowed in like a will?

I think you can put just about anything into your will.

If credit cards and such are used after your death, it’s considered fraud. So your loved ones duty is to cancel the cards/close the bank account etc

I meant bc family is playing on one of the many WoW accounts connected to the Blizzard app.

No they do not. They can get locked but many times Blizz allows players to get those accounts by a will if there is proof the person was a direct relative or spouse.

That’s against ToS

Once I die, I’ll ask what happens then report back.

No. You don’t own anything in the game. You are leasing it from Blizzard.

Someone posted this in another topic so the answer is here

Assuming World of Warcraft still exists it’ll be bloated with expansions

I’m not sure if Blizzard officially recognizes memorializing an account but ownership can be transferred.

I know this is a morbid topic but I was thinking the same thing…because you can just have your spouse etc… buy the gift cards and keep you sub going without a cc attached…the ones for 29.99 for 90 days…

But is there a way to be memorialized in the game do we need to contact blizzard / Activision personally or ???to have them make a NPC in the game

Not if they are playing in a linked battlenet. Getting them unlinked is very difficult, close to impossible. My friend had his account linked to his moms account under the same battlenet. It took months and months and many GM tickets and CS forum posts to get his account unliked from his mom’s account.

Not true. You can will it, people have done so before. And also, Blizzard calls it YOUR account when account action is taken or when viewing terms they say YOUR account, they do not say OUR account. They also phrase it as YOUR World of Warcraft character, not OUR World of Warcraft character. It is like owning a house, you won the house, you do not own the street the house is on, you do not own the city your house is in, yet you own your house. (well… technically you do not own your house unless you were able to sign it as an allodial title which I did, meaning they are not allowed to charge me any axes for my property and never have and never will), but yes Blizzard said you own your account but only for the legal reasons of them not wanting to claim they own the account because if they did than technically if any one of us went crazy on the forums and started saying wacky stuff about other companies or governments, Blizz can say it was us who did that on our account, but if they owned the account then in a court of law it would technically be them who said that stuff. So that is why. That you own your account and are responsible for it.

Married couples who have linked battlenet account and who swapped toons between them, yes those accounts have been separated in the past. Happened in a guild I was in. Blizzard had nothing to do with what toon went where, a lawyer figured all of that out, and Blizzard did the spit off of that info.

They’ll “free up” (steal) all your character names after 3-4 years of non-use. The account will probably remain intact indefintely because there’s no gain from deleting it.
