DLSS 3 Frame Generation

We need DLSS 3 Frame Generation in WoW. From what I read, it can help a lot in CPU locked games like WoW. I need this implemented by Friday, which is when my RTX 4060 ti will be arriving. Don’t let me down, Ion.

YO HOPE it adds DLSS 2 not getting 4000 series card got my 3060 already.

Umm…that comes at the cost of input latency…so…ummm…I don’t think you all doing end game content will go for that. Just a wild guess.

Okay OP, can you explain what you just told me as if I was five years old?

Frame Generation is where the card inserts extra frames that are generated by AI between normally rendered frames to improve performance. The card can generate these extra frames while the game is bogged down on the CPU end. WoW is so poorly optimized that it brings the greatest CPUs on the market to the knees. Frame Generation can help.

No.

Yes, I run WoW on a 10700k. I deserve to have adequate FPS.

I agree, anything to help with FPS increases like that is cool by me. :+1:

Even something as simple as dynamic scaling whenever the FPS is high or low.

You know that addon AdaptiveRes that tries to do the Dynamic Scaling that’s in other games? Pretty much that, but at real time. (The addon does it with a slight millsecond delay. And no, i’ve manually adjust it to be close to real-time, but it studdered my game from doing that.)

Bad form to /thread your own response.

im all for more fps. i love juicy 120 fps. it would be nice to have a solid 120 fps locked at 4k in epic bg fights

Hey, I got it 2 years ago. I’m sure it’ll be fine.

I’d recommend people here to try out variable rate shading. It’s tackling the same problem as frame gen but from another angle. Also freesync/gsync is essentially mandatory for wow. As far as cpu bottlenecks are concerned frame gen won’t help with input latency, it would just give you soap opera effect. Both amd and nvidia do frame doubling with VRR displays as well if the monitor’s supported fps range is wide enough (“low framerate compensation”).

Now for my own issue tracking:

  1. Some shaders that are broken when used with MSAA enabled.

Watch the fel rocks area where the first boss of tomb of Sargeras lands. There’s an aliased green line that doesn’t exist with msaa disabled. This is due to lighting calculations bugging out.

  1. Also, the generalized outline effect doesn’t like msaa as well.

  2. An even bigger issue would be animated semi translucent textures that fake up fog or are 2d decal fire not scaling with resolution at all. You could be chilling at 4k on a 3090 and suddenly you hit sub 60 in decade old content down from locked 300. It affects both AMD and nvidia and doesn’t scale at all on either.

IIRC Skadi the Ruthless in that wotlk dungeon. Whenever his Proto drake breaths fire, it brings everyone’s gpus to a crawl. Set your camera into the fire to see the worst of it. The more your screen is covered by it the worse it gets. It almost feels like there’s atomic memory ops or a cache miss on every single pixel for it.

Apparently this is a very old issue and shader code surrounding such haven’t been modified in almost a decade remaining bugged.

Bumping because my 4090 build will drop below 60 FPS in time rifts, valdrakken and thirty man raids… frame gen may be the only solution?

DLSS 3, specifically the frame generation component, can add latency, so is not always desirable. But typically DLSS is backward compatible, so you could still run without the frame generation component, get all the benefits of DLSS 2, none of the extra latency, and compatibility with older cards (all RTX cards, not just 4 series).

Frame gen also spikes your GPU utilization to 100%.

I buyed an AMD GPU and have frame gen on drivers and don’t payed extra 300$ bullsh**t for that tech !

Yes,
/thread.
FG would add a lot of value to this game as it is perfect for games with massive cpu bottleneck.
Latency delay is something people have to test and feel for themselves. This isn’t a twitch reaction shooter, so it shouldn’t be that bad.

Lossless Scaling works pretty well atm

Lmao what are you, poor?

-4090 gang

The input latency introduced by the latest version of dlss3.0 will likely not effect any end game performance. It’s not that bad anymore.

You guys came back to necro a year old thread? Weird. Make necroing a bannable offense.
