DKs in the Maw? Plot hole?

Does anyone know why / how there are Death Knights in the Maw? I thought that only the player could enter the Maw, as the only “Maw walker” But I’m doing a daily quest collecting the swords of fallen Knights of the Ebon Blade whose bodies are littered about the Maw

Is this a plot hole that Blizzard missed? For those curious, the daily quest is “A Monument to Vengeance”.

You’re joking, right?

They’re the one you came in with.

Yea someone pointed this out to me! Still think it’s weird that we’re doing a quest collecting their swords months later, but unsurprising.

Curiously, we haven’t really been told how much time has passed. Usually it’s 1 xpac = 1 year or 2 years, sometimes 1 patch = 1 year

but eh

Canonicity of repeatable quests is also an issue; presumably we canonically did most of these only the one time.

Wow, did you find a way to skip over the intro quest? Because when your character first travels to the Maw it’s with a cadre of Ebon Blade Death Knights commanded by Darion Morgraine - the first two quests you have in the intro to the Shadowlands is to rescue and regroup with these Death Knights in the Maw as you look for the kidnapped racial leaders.

Those dead DK’s you find in the Maw later are the corpses of those DK’s who fought by your side that were eventually wiped out by the Jailer’s forces since, as you point out, only the Maw Walker can travel to and leave the Maw.

You gather their swords to build a monument to them basically because they sacrificed themselves for the mission.

I played the intro content but didn’t think I would be picking up the swords of those initial DKs this far down the road. But as Baalsamael noted above, the canonicity of repeatable quests is a wonky thing in the storytelling.

And I didn’t think I’d be going to get the same blade for the Argent Tournament every day, but here we are.

We honor those who followed us into the abyss, to never leave that infernal realm. I do like the monument quest for my dk brethren.

Also at this point they’ve sacrificed more then DHs have.
