Hey folks, I’m coming over from Classic and I’d like some help deciding between DK and Paladin. Can you compare the following please?
Blood vs Prot
Unholy vs Ret
I spoke to a Blood DK today who was telling me he doesn’t need to swap gear between changing between Blood and Undead because ilvl >>>>>> Second suit of gear. Is this true?
I knew I had seen this somewhere before…
You posted this in the Paladin forum too. However, here is the same answer I posted over there:
Blood is a more solid tank spec IMO, and more fun to play
Ret is more fun to play, but Unholy, played correctly, is a great DPS spec. The trick is, it has a higher skill cap than Ret.
Given the choice between Paladin and DK, I’d play DK first (though Paladin is VERY close behind that).
My sims disagree with this. I have separate gear for both specs with very little overlap.
Prot paladin >>>>>>>>>>blood DK.

Paladin is always more stable than dk. Dk always getting slapped around with nerf bats. Paladin always there watching from sidelines . Just standing. And watching
My DK was originally a paladin in TBC, but he was killed and raised by Arthas in Wrath.

In what form of content? In raid and m+ dk is currently doing better.
I suppose dks health by design is spikey, that’s just how the class is plays, but I mean Paladins can be too if they have gaping wholes in their mitigation.
In M+, paladin is represented on its dps and tank mote often than either of dks dps and tank soecs.
Furthermore, unlike DK, prot doesnt rely upon a healer nearly as much as a DK does st higher keys. Mitigating damage is much more effective currently than simply spike healing.
In terms of raid, DK is desired for a few fights due to ease of management kf adds, but they still take far more damage than the other tanks.
In anycase, as it stands, warriors and monks dominate M+ tanking which is just ridiculous.
Personally I enjoy prot paladin far more than blood dk for tanking, and while ret is fun, definitely frost/unholy beat it. While I enjoy the more simplistic style of damage ret has, for pvp (which i do a lot of) DK in general has SO much more to answer other classes with (can’t be slowed under 70% movement speed, ams/amz/darksim/death strike/pet interrupt + interrupt to name a few). I have a paladin around 450 and in pvp it’s just different. Definitely feels worse against ranged and you notice the loss of death’s advance.
As for blood/unholy, pretty sure the stat values are in a similar range so yeah, i doubt they change much gear if at all. I carry two 2hs (my unholy wep + my previous unholy wep with stoneskin on it) and that’s about the only thing i’ll swap unless I care enough to keep spare azerite gear around for blood.
Tl;dr: Paladin thematically is cool, but dk just has a way more fun toolkit for pvp and pve IMO. I’v mained DK for years and while i’ll mess around on a paladin ocassionally, DK is definitely my perma main.
What? Unholy is more represented according to wcl, and so is blood. Only reason frost isn’t higher is because it doesn’t have the aoe burst that unholy has.
I must be reading it wrong then since I was looking at percentages.
I cannot see how BDK would perform.any better than paladin in M+.
We scale worse in terms.of mitigation, and the armor value changes hurt bdk more than others.
It seems more to me people are just buying into the TD hype than some actual changes that make them better.
In raids I understand due to mechanics.
do you want to be a hero and brings lot of utility and buffs to battle along with having a great rotation or do you want to be a zombie that dosent bring anything
