DK necrolord, is it that bad?

I havent played my DK since Wotlk and I really wanted to play a Necrolord DK for the story and armor set. Is necrolord really that bad for Dk’s? I cant got night fae for it it looks absolutely ridiculous. Venthry maybe, but I reallllly like the necrolords for aesthetic.

Also, how are DK doing in general pvp / pve wise? Is unholy and blood competitive.

in the end its all up to you what you want.

Im playing Necrolord becuase of the effects armor and colors of the zone.
Honestly the swirly grabby hands looks cool af to me and i dont care if it doesnt make me do all the min max numbers its just what i want to play

Is it bad yes very very bad.

The damage is bad, it has a fairly long cooldown, can pull stuff in that you weren’t fighting and the extra effects arn’t really worth the use. Argueablely the best thing we get is fleshcraft and even then it isn’t that good for us since we have to standstill to cast it and it’s only 20% of our health when you look at some of the other extras which is a blink like effect with a movement boost that can blink twice and a teleport which just helps massively with out movement.

Sadly necro is more then likely going to be the ginger stepchild of the DK’s we know they are there we say hello every now and again but we avoid them when we can since they don’t really do much, can it be salvaged at this point sadly no it’s way to late in the ballgame for blizz to do anything major to the spell we get unless they are going to do it mid xpax which would be nice but other then giving it a way shorter cooldown or massively uping it’s damage i don’t see meny people going for it unless they just simple don’t care at all that they are kneecapping themselfs with their choice and if the forums are to be beleaved people are going to be booting justs about any DK with it in pugs since it is that bad which is sad since i still do want that tmog but i will prob stick with my venth.

I’m in the same boat, I desperately want to play Necrolords but it’s just so bad compared to venthyr. At least Venthyr seems a decent alternative but unfortunately DKs are like the only class that actually looks good as a Necrolord but almost no class is actually better for picking Necrolord. They’re just trash. I’m trying to make at least 1 class go each covenant to see all the campaigns but I’m really struggling with necrolords.

Wait did something change? I know the ability itself was not great but I was told if you take Emeni as your soulbind, his first ability lead by example turns it into a pretty decent cooldown.

Have you tested this in the beta? I was told it only pulls targets in combat with you.

I’m having mixed feelings now, Necro was what I was excited about for my DK. Oh well, going to join them anyways as the armor is sick and it fits the theme I want.

just be a pvp dk and then u actually have to be necrolord

I’ve seen in happen and it has been documented quite a lot that it happens, they changed it a bit to focus now on your targets but if you lose track of them aka turn the wrong way it can and more then likely will pull someone in if they are in range.

They have changed it now that it’s only every few secs it will pull a target which is a massive improvement since it was down right broken in PvP when it would just pull every sec but it still has that as a merchanic and if you don’t understand it or respect it you will pull something you will never mean for it to happen but it will happen.

If you don’t care about pushing mythic raid then necrolord is BIS for looks.

If you do care about the raids then go kyrian

With how blizz is constantly changing the soul bind ects, Pic what you want to play with. Chances are if you pick BIS now it may be nerfed later on.
I am going necro for purely pvp alone. You can still push 15 in time easy with necro as well and you will be fine doing herioc raids as necro.
It is also really really good in pvp.

If you play necrolord be prepared to be removed from M+ groups after they inspect you.

It is almost guaranteed the best covenant at launch will be nerfed 1-2 weeks in. But Necrolord’s is fairly competitive and will likely be a reason your brought to a M+ far before your told “no” for one.

Unless you are in a top 100 guild or do incredibly high end pvp it really won’t matter.
Just go necro lord if that’s what you like.

They have all been nerfed so hard at this point and I’m sure we will see more balancing during the first raid tier so nobody knows.

From the DK discord:

What is the best covenant for my spec
None are statistically significant at this time. We won’t have an answer until roughly a week until launch (ie until final tuning is done)

You will see LFR heros claiming that if you don’t go a certain covenant then you are trolling. Meanwhile they don’t know how to sim their character, have WA’s or any kind of boss mod.

Point is it’s a video game. Just play what you enjoy!

Imagine calling a 4k IO warrior who killed N’Zoth months before he did a LFR hero, but to each their own I guess.

The way Necrolords are currently, you are completely trolling if you choose it. Good thing is EVERY SPEC has a troll covenant and a few weeks into the tier everyone will know what they are.

If you enjoy getting the boot from random groups, then by all means go for it! Just don’t expect random people to carry you because your character “looks cool”.

To be fair many wont care about covenants in lower keys for most specs. Even for 15s they won’t care if you aren’t absolutely best covenant for m+ as some will have best raid covenant instead.

Sadly necrolord is probably going to be the exception to this rule. The first time a key is depleted because of a stupid limb use…yeah I fully expect this single covenant choice to be the most discriminated against regardless of key level.

Just saying though not everyone is sole m+ player and people won’t kick everyone who isn’t best covenant for m+ only. But troll covenants that just suck everywhere will be tells that could cause declines. Like I said though necrolord dk will be the exception for sure and get the boot quick when people lose keys or hear of key horror stories.

Sad thing is that most people are still believeing the lie of every cov will be good from blizz even though anyone with half a brain that even does a little bit of looking online will see that most of them are crap. DK’s just happen to be the golden child of crap so we get the brunt of the hatred.

Does the armor look awesome hell yeah it does will some people be going it anyway hell yeah they will, will they complain online about getting booted yeah i expect that to happen on week 2 once everyone starts to see the issue it can cause and how crap it is, can it be fixed honestly yes it can they can change it will they change it haha no they won’t, other then making it do a truck load of damage and making it not grip anything you arn’t in combat with it will just be bad.

what really makes necro such a piss poor choice early is the fact that all the other soul bind have an amazing first soulbind skill. While the second necrolord soul bind (that we won’t even unlock for a few months) is the one that has the good first skill.
Really wish they would mix it up here. At least gaining a 15 percent str increase (and increasing main stat for your party) would actually be useful.

At least a blood tank it will be a little better I suppose. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I never called you a LFR hero? Clearly you are not. I have no idea who you are but grats!

I mean it’s on a 2minute cd. The player could always learn to use it appropriately? Is it still bugging out on the beta and pulling out of combat mobs? I’d imagine that’s fixed by the time it goes live.

Nobody knows what covenant will be best right now. For all we know they buff the crap out of a necro passive tree and it becomes BIS even without using the ability. :man_shrugging:t2:

At the end of the day it’s a video game.
Play what you enjoy.

People that are pushing max performance will most likely be swapping covenants as the balancing keeps happening.

I’m going necrolords. You still get the 15% increase strength on use and if I’m not mistaken it also buff others in group for small increase damage if I read correctly.

You do, but sadly it is form our second soul bind, which we won’t even have til much later on. At the start of raiding/mythic/pvp season it will not be there.
Necrolords need a buff I think.
