So this is an odd source of pain to reference, but I’m running Antorus for transmog pieces on Mythic. I run it all the time, only recently have I started running it on my paladin. Now, when I tell you how much easier my paladin is to run Mythic Antorus it’s not cause of it’s tier piece, or output, or meta placement or whatever… it is solely due to mobility. DK mobility is absolute trash and needs a HARD rework. I know Death’s Advance is an amazing ability and gets you out of or completely skipping plenty of BS mechanics, but it doesn’t FEEL fun or GOOD to press. You just get to skip a mechanic here and there, and as for a speed boost its one of the most boring versions any class has in the game. I would prefer to see them rework it completely or bake wraith walk and it into the same ability. Not only because wraith walk looks amazing and lends itself more to the class fantasy, but also because it is E X T R E M E L Y stupid to take not one but TWO nodes to even make our mobility bare-able, and even then you don’t benefit fully by using both at once.
Anyways, what are all of your thoughts on our mobility? Does it need a rework? An art update? Or is it “fine”?

It’s supposed to be DK’s thing that we make others move, so we don’t have to. We have death grip, and Death’s advance negates us having to chase down an enemy trying to push us away.
That said, If DG doesn’t work we don’t have many options. I would love a talent or glyph that would have us leap at whatever we DG like in Torgast especially if that enemy is immune to DG.
pre legion unholy pres and wod DA helped out alot and we could focus on enchants or things that did offence or defensive things.
and wow did it work DA had a passive that paired really nice with unholy pres speed boost
and man i miss those days
The issue with mobility isnt if it looks good or feels fun, what mobility do you get from it? For a lot of Antorus you can just mount up.
There is more than enough mobility for running older content. Some people just complain to complain.
Personally, i find it bad design that one of the stated flaws they wanted DK’s and Paladins to have were mobility, yet they granted more mobility to paladins. (amongst many other fixes).
A lot of the specs in the game have identity issues as well as design flaws tethered to outdated mechanics, concepts, and not meshing with their current combat design philosophy. (over-reliance on cooldowns yet they ant a faster and more mechanically high APM boss fights don’t mesh).
Paladins are intended to be our thematic counterpart, yet are currently in the meta way better in almost every regard.
In regards to mobility, they have an easy fix:
-
STAMPEDE OF THE SCOURGE: Add a Death knight version of the paladins Crusader’s Charge, where we summon our Deathsteed for a few seconds… especially since its such a beautifully animated and lore-tied mount, there’s a literal quest in our starter area tied to it (two actually), its tethered to our class…
-
WRAITH WALK (CHANGED): Remove the channeled requirement of Wraith Walk, change the animation to not be some ghost where we stand still and have our weapon on our shoulder as we float off the ground unmoving… Just make it so we’re “ghostly looking” but move incredibly fast, allow us to attack while doing so. Its only 4 seconds, Many other classes have sprint enhanced abilities like this that last longer or make them move faster.
-
DEATH MARCHES FORWARD (New utility option) have a Talent in our tree that causes Death’s Charge apply a “shout” to all nearby allies, causing them to all gain its benefits… If i am a commanding death knight, a leader of death, i should be able to motivate my allies to charge forth and bring death to our foes.

If you didn’t need to talent into wraith walk it wouldn’t feel as bad imo.
Our mobility will always be low though due to death grip.
I am sipping the copium though that the new hero talents will give us a DK version of a mount in combat at the very least. I guess we will see.

Try soloing Eonar as a DK, then any other class. I’m not saying “I don’t like to walk to bosses” obviously you can mount, don’t be silly. I am fine with being slow or being the class that “brings others to them” but that mobility should come with a bonus of either being an unkillable juggernaut, or an absolute slaughterhouse bruiser, neither of which describe current DK, frost or unholy.

I genuinely don’t think we lock things down well enough, survive well enough, or burst well enough to warrant the ‘bring it to me’ method of gameplay. I’m chasing things down and slowly bringing them to me for them to kill ME not the other way around. If I’m not hard to kill, I need to be hard to catch.

we prob gonna get some decent mobility in war within with the “Rider of the Apocalypse” Hero spec

Use the Eonar ability. Mobility isnt an issue on that fight at all.
I also struggle with soloing Mythic Eonar, not on the ground where I can fly around but in the ship where you have to destroy all the crystals even then I have to talent into wraith walk as well. there isn’t really enough time as a dk to kill the crystals and the mob and escape without wiping.
It sucks, but hoping soon it wont matter when I can bring something more mobile to farm mogs.

You 1 shot the mob, and you dont have to be stationary for each crystal while you channel it. You can start the channel on the crystal and start moving to the next while the channel still happens.
You guys really have no argument here when the guide for soloing Eonar uses a DK and it is done without any issues at all.
Just to add an edit - I just did it on this character, no Wraith Walk, and I still had like 20-15% left on the cast when I channeled the last crystal. Almost completed the entire DK set in one run as well. I dont know why people are complaining about it, its a skill issue at this point.
Its specifically in the ship… the fight is impossible without the ability… smh
You likely got lucky with mechanic RNG, because once the debuffs start knocking you around there is no way to recover on a dk. Glad you killed it, we do too, just saying it is literally easier on other classes. Odd hill to die on bruh.
its impossible without wraith walk?
no, it very clearly isnt. you just dont know what you are doing.
The boss ability my guy… the one you “suggested” I try using…
Change path of frost to a short burst of speed. After all, we’re walking in ice!

I never told you to use it within the ship.
You specifically stated
And for context there was no other context in that post that said “within the ship” You just said try it on a DK and another class, and I did, and they are pretty much the same thing.
The first thing that even mentioned the ship was Alvesea
Its funny how the goal post keeps moving at this point. It went from you cant solo it as a DK because movespeed, there isnt enough time in the ship to kill the mob and channel the crystals without Wraith Walk… to now “you cant use the ability in the ship”.
Ive also dont it on a shaman, guess what, it was the same clear time. No harder or easier. Quit complaining, we have plenty of movement speed.
We are unequivocally the slowest plate class in the game.
Remove anything about Eonar from this conversation and get to the brass tax about movement abilities. DeathKnights may as well be in a wheelchair, it gets even worse when compared to the other non-plate classes. Grip and Deaths Advance combined doesn’t make up for what rogue, demon hunter, monk, druid, (survival) hunter, paladin, or warrior can do with putting their bodies in range of another player. (you’ll notice I focused on the melee classes, since this is the easiest to compare as we are also a melee class and have the same obstacles when dealing damage + mechanics) Blizzard literally had to give us 2 grips AND 2 death’s advances just so we’d have both hands on our wheelchair at once; which STILL requires a talent node to accomplish, and a pretty DEEP in the base tree node at that.
Please stop arguing for arguments sake. Our ability literally NEGATES mechanics because if it didn’t we’d cause group wipe after group wipe with the “speed increase” alone by being thrown off/into/through mobs, mechanics, ledges etc.
This is meant to be a discussion on if our movement speed is good and/or fun, your arguments bring no value and only strawman people based on their skill at the game, (in this instance checks notes about hitting a speed increase button
).
Lastly a speed increase absolutely should be useful but it also should add a layer of “fun” to your class. If it isn’t meant to be fun or look good we’d still just be playing dungeons and dragons with our imagination. Its a video game, and abilities should be cool looking, add class fantasy, and HELP you with your task in the game.

I actually dig the flavor of bringing something we already have to life by adding something like this. Could be a “group movement” ability at that.
