Hey guys I was just wondering from a lore standpoint does it bother anyone else that holy magic is basically super effective against dks? Like for example a warrior everything has a chance to kill it but nothing is super effective. Idk I’m sure it’s a dumb thing to think about haha but I think it’s one reason I can’t bring myself to main a dk
As correct as this is its also heavily incorrect. Dks are susceptible to holy magic sure but the armor that dks wear (saronite) Absorbs magic basically rendering it useless. In Lore Arthas made death knights almost with the sole purpose of countering paladins in battle. We’re meant to be paladin killers and that we were. Likewise paladins function in the same exact way, death knight/Undead killers. It just evens out at the end of the day
Dk’s destroy Paladins in game. The inherent defenses and magic-counters that DK’s have without the need of armor make them a counter for Paladins.
if thats the case how come the light basically destroyed them during the dk campaign when they tried to get tirions corpse
I was referring to the in-game DK and Paladin, but during the class hall campaign the player goes into Light’s Hope Chapel, which is I think where the Light has the strongest presence. It is basically the heart of the Light, so any unholy creature that ventures in there isn’t going to last long. Even Arthas had no power there.
Tell me how, because I always get rekt against them in game
The only time it’s been effective is when the Light itself showed up. We kicked the Silverhand’s butts on their own holy ground.
Nice strawman. OP’s worry on that thread was that DK is supposedly paper-tank. The problem here is that pally is broken, not that DK is paper-tank…or maybe I just really need to git gud, hence my request to Trumpknight (“tell me how”)
Hazzed on youtube has a number of semi recent guides. One of which was in opposition to a pally. He mainly sticks to frost but he has some unholy action in there too.
Well it really comes down to each ability DK’s and Paladins have and how each counters the other. We have AMS which negates their stun and their primary source of damage. If they do even manage to stun us, we have trinket/relentless and Icebound Fortitude to mitigate the CC time. We have Death Strike off-healing. We have our own ranged stun. If they use Hand of Protection, we can still use almost every single one of our abilities except Obliterate, Festering Strike and Death Strike… and I think stun because that’s a physical effect for some reason. Overall we just have more consistent Magic mitigation and defensive mechanics than they do. I don’t recall ever losing to a Paladin on DK. To be fair though, I have rarely PvP’d this expansion pack because it’s garbage, but the class mechanics are same as they were in Legion, and I didn’t lose to Paladins then. In PvP I don’t find Paladins to be broken. They need to be rebalanced. They have low utility and a poor defense playstyle while having stupidly random and unpredictable damage and heals. I mained Ret for most of my time in BFA up until two weeks ago where I swapped to Frost, so I know how it can be.
What, they are like Pokemon?
BOLVAR FORDRAGON, I CHOOSE YOU!
Those are good points, and I think I should try to understand better how pally works
The LIGHT =/= Paladins. How come Illidan was able to kill the annoying windchime but DHs can’t kill THE LIGHT.
Xe’ra is a physical being with Light inside of her. She is not The Light itself. She’s a Naaru, and they are physical beings no different than any other. Illidan did not destroy the Light when he laser-beamed her. He shattered her physical form but the Light that resided within her still remained, hence why it is a part of the questline to pick up three of her pieces and use them on the Nether Crucible to empower it.
Death Knights have traditionally stomped the crap out of paladins in lore and in all of the games. The only time it didn’t go our way was in our newbie zone – but Arthas didn’t make us out of fallen paladins, he made us out of nobody corpses. We weren’t made to be powerful, we were made to be bait.
Then, we attacked Light’s Hope and stomped the ever loving
out of every single paladin present – including the most powerful blood elf paladin – and the Light itself had to manifest to stop us.
We’re not intrinsically weak to paladins. Paladins were made to kill demons. Death Knights of the second generation were made to kill paladins. We just happened to surpass them after the fact.
Hmm? The first time we saw Paladins was after the first war. They were made to fight the orcs.
Knights of the Silver Hand under Uther.
In WC1 paladins were christians and orcs were demons from hell.
100% Jesus was not in WC1.
100% the light wasn’t, either.
Ok? There were no Paladin units In WC1 just mounted knights and Christians weren’t in Warcraft ever. General belief in a god doesn’t mean Christian.
The first time you get a paladin unit is WC2 and orcs weren’t demons even though demons were a unit under the orcs.
