This M+ season has increased the need for a dispel more than ever before. The class that is the master of diseases should have the ability to siphon a disease or something to have it removed.
Paladins got a brez this expansion despite all their other existing utility - give us something new too. Random shower thought of the day

there was something expansions ago that removed diseases for extra damage or soemthing
it was called plague leech in mop consume diseases for 2 runes
It was originally added in version 5.4 Build 17191 and consumed both your Blood Plague and Frost Fever on a target within 30 yards to restore a single depleted Death Rune. It also had a 25 sec cooldown.
That was quickly patched in the same game version 5.4 with a newer Build 17205 to restore two depleted Death Runes instead of one with everything else the same but even with that change it was still frankly useless due to the cooldown.
It then pretty much keep the same concept to remove your diseases on a target with 30 yards to restore two runes on a 25 second cooldown which included the version you mentioned. Which was in version 7.0.1 Build 20740 of the game during Mists of Pandaria which you also mentioned and was removed from the game in the next game build for Mists of Pandaria
The key things you left out was the fact that due to its cooldown (25 seconds) and the overall recovery speed of Runes for DKs it meant that the ability provided no actual benefit whatsoever to the DK and was more of a loss overall.
That being said it did provide a means for a complete damage stop in PvP or PvE that allowed for CC’s etc to work but that could also be achieved by various other means as well obviously…even with the diseases on a target they could still be stunned or cycloned for example.
The only way IMHO they could make Plague Leech work and be viable is change it from the concept of consume your diseases to get 2 runes to make it remove all diseases from all targets in a 30 yard range instead of being a Single Target. Then do something like this:
-
Consume your diseases from all targets in a 30 yard range to gain a % modifier to you and your pets damage for X seconds for Unholy
-
Consume your diseases from all targets in a 30 yard range to gain a % modifier to either Frost Strikes or Obliterates for X second for Frost
-
Consume your diseases from all targets in a 30 yard range to decrease the amount of damage you take by a % modifier for X seconds for Blood.
Then based on what % modifier and the duration it lasted for you could balance out the Cooldown period easier as well to make it much more viable and beneficial option for the DK to utilise.
I am not sure if you’d remember but at one point Plague Strike actually also removed a Heal over Time effect from the Target - Plague Strike with Heal over Time Removal. I know many that would love to see that back as a PvP Talent modifier for example… that being said we all know Druids would absolutely hate it of course
Apparently we can help heal the afflicted with DC, haven’t been able to try yet tho.
The Afflicted Souls are classified as type Undead so it is possible that Death Coil is an option that might be used to heal them as you’ve mentioned.
The reason for this is the fact that while it does cause Fire a blast of unholy energy, causing Shadow damage to an enemy target it does provide healing to any friendly Undead target, and it’s one of the ways that a DK can heal their undead pet or actually heal themselves when they use Lichborne for example.
The only problem you’ll need to deal with is the fact that they can’t actually be targeted so you’d need to setup your death coil with a macro that allows for a modifier key for a mouseover or have a separate one just for afflicted healing for example you could use
/cast [@mouseover,exists] death coil
this would cast death coil at the afflicted as you mouseover them.
It would have been nice if blizzard had considered to allow DK’s to make use of Control Undead Talent
as a form of CC that worked on Afflicted Souls. However, that isn’t possible because the Afflicted Souls are level 70 and the Talent only works on Undead upto level 38… What’s the point of the ability to be honest it provides no in game utility or benefit for a level 70 DK at least make the ability to something that is viable and useful as a utility choice for the DK under certain circumstances…
Strange that you can’t target the Afflicted Souls - surely it wasn’t Blizzard intention to require macros to deal with them.
Totally agree on Control Undead. Feels like a completely dead talent in desperate need of a rework. I remember for a brief minute in the Shadowlands beta when you could sac the controlled mob, now that was cool
In the early days of DK’s Control Dead had a lot of ways it could be used in a lot of content to provide a variety of unique bonuses and benefits. As an example there was many Undead Casters that you could control to gain access to various different spells and abilities that those NPC’s had available to use. This meant that for example in some circumstances you might be able to use a controlled undead NPC to provide you with a CC effect like Polymorph for example. In other instances you might be able to gain access to a Bloodlust mechanic, honestly there was a vast array available that you could make use of.
However, over time these were modified or changed to be immune to control undead to prevent DK’s from having access to these NPC spells and abilities when they used Control Undead on the right Undead NPC’s to the point almost all undead NPC were immune.
Nothing has changed all the relevant undead NPC’s any DK that is level 50+ would want to use Control Undead on is going to be Immune due to the ridiculous level restrictions the ability has on it now. What would I compare it’s current iteration too? Maybe the Druid Boomkin Flap ability except that ability is still actually useful in certain circumstances like negating any type of falling damage in zones and instances that prevent all options for other classes to reduce that damage with an ability that isn’t one of their primary ones… So even the Flap ability provides access to a way to make use of it at level 70 in various locations and encounters. the same can’t be said for Control Undead…
In terms of the Afflicted Souls and the problems with being able to target them from my understanding it has something to do with the fact that Blizzard is making use of some server side Nameplate that isn’t your typical nameplate players have access to in their UI to modify and change around. Due to it being a non-standard nameplate that is happening server side the players have very limited and restricted options to modify and even interact with them in game unlike the Standard Nameplates.
I believe that Plater Nameplates might have been updated to potentially force some aspect to firstly enable and make these non-standard nameplates from Afflicted and Incorporeal to become something that will trigger and make them visible etc. However, I am not sure of the current level at which this has been achieved in their latest build.
Hope that makes sense?

Ah quick update that I came across in terms of Control Undead.
A DK could initially use Control Undead on the Incorporeal Being NPC’s that spawn as part of the Incorporeal M+ Affix. However, this was quickly removed in a hotfix due to a hilarious benefit and utility it gave to the DK and any members in their M+ group. As I mentioned in my previous post a DK is able to gain access to any NPC’s abilities and spells while they are their minion. So this essentially allowed any DK that knew about this to charm an Incorporeal Being and then have them cast Destabilize on enemy NPC’s in the instance. Even with one cast the reduction in terms of damage and healing for any enemy NPC was significant at 50% but it was the ability to get off a second cast making even the highest level Enemy NPCs do around 99% less and damage and receive 99% less healing as well which would clearly trivialize M+ with this affix for all groups that included a DK.
Obviously this wasn’t intended however, supposedly the Developers actually do want DK’s and Warriors to be able to use their abilities like Control Undead (Charm spell) or Intimidating Shout (Fear Spell) as a form of additional CC they can bring to the group in terms of M+ and the Incorporeal Affix itself.
So they talked about potentially changing the version Destabilize that a DK would gain access to when these NPCs are charmed and under the DK’s control. However, they have to change the spell to once again effect NPC’s and not just Players as it does right now, so potentially there will be a Charmed variant that is able to cast on other NPC’s but is reducing by a much smaller amount (e.g. 10% up to a maximum of 20%) with two casts.
Keep a watch on this space to see what they actually end up implementing.
they could return icy touch a single target infector that also purges 1 thing per target
