Divine Image Update

From the notes today.

Divine Image's (Runecarving Power) repertoire of spells are now 30% more effective and now have a slightly higher chance to appear when casting a Holy Word spell.

I tested this a bit and it looks like the proc rates around 25-26% now instead of 20%. Here’s kind of the data I got from it when it proc’d.

  • Targets hit by Smite, SWP, Holy Fire, and Chastise were taking an extra 1200 holy damage each time they were directly hit.
  • Flash Heal / Heal targets take an extra 1800 healing.
  • Targets with Renew took an extra 2800 healing (400x7 ticks).
  • CoH/PoH/Sanctuary does an AOE heal for 500 healing per target (500x5).

Overall the stats look solid, but the proc rate is still bad. I had periods where I got 5 procs in 10 Holy Words and others with 0 procs in 10 Holy Words. You can go 2-3+ minutes without a single proc. In a typical raid (assuming 40 holy Words) you’re only going to get on average 10 procs for 1.5 minute uptime and assuming you get an average of 2k healing every 2s it’ll be only like an extra 90-150k healing (so like 3-5% of your healing).

The overall healing is actually worse than Cauterizing Shadows which is a consistent 1800x3 every 16s. The damage increase is pretty solid though because it’s about an instant 1k dps increase which will help with bursting things down.

I think the proc rate needs to be increased even more to like 50% (or something you can activate on cooldown) for this to really be raid viable. The fact I can go 15-20 Holy Words in a row without a single proc really limits its potential.

This was my first legendary I crafted and upgraded because I love seeing the Naaru appear and it helped quite a bit when I was undergeared.

However, it was too inconsistent to justify keeping once I had access to others. It’s a bummer, because when it does proc it feels great. I just wish it happened more often!

Yes, it’s unfortunate. The power difference between FC and everything else is vast.

Something as simple as Harmonious is better than Divine Image for HPS increase and it’s completely passive and doesn’t rely on RNG.

So I messed with it a bit tonight. It’s still far worse than flash conc. But it’s definitely better than Harmonius. On the pulls I used it, it made up ~6% of my healing, which is far more than I could say of the 2-4 extra holy words Harmonius gives me. However, it is VERY good for damage.

In M+, still a terrible unreliable leggo. I went 16 casts in a +15 mists without a single divine image, and while we were in the maze fighting the dragon ghost I popped 3 at a time. Which is great for damage, but man did it make the parts where it wasn’t proccing harder, and that mob is easy anyway.

Ended the run with about 2k DPS average, but it made up like 2% of my healing so :expressionless:

Well, I’m hoping Blizz can take this feedback, and give it some more tweaking by 9.1.

I don’t understand the random proc chance on it. Uncontrollable power spikes on a healer tends to be horrible. It should get changed to something along the lines of proccing “after casting 4 Holy Words in combat”.

Thanks for doing the testing! Divine Image is definitely my favorite from a class fantasy perspective. It’s a shame it doesn’t perform better.

They should give it a very high proc and an internal cooldown then balance from there. It would smooth out the rng.

I think that a good change to this would be that instead of this being a chance to proc, it should be that every 2nd or 3rd holy word creates a divine image. They can always tune the amount of healing it gives in the end if it’s still weak or overpowered even.

Thank you for testing this stuff out though. I don’t really like legendaries that are based on chances. There are very few that are even like that so I hope they can take some feedback and make impactful changes.
