Divide By Zero, but only w/Crafting?

Good morning, I’ve started running into the ye’ ol Divide by Zero error since the latest patch update, but with a shiny new caveat I haven’t seen others talk about. It only happens when I’m trying to craft! The error kicks me with and without addons installed.

So, I downloaded the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility as advised by many other threads, but my Core ratio options are entirely greyed out and unable to be changed. I moved on to trying to find out if I needed to update my BIOS. But, I have a gaming laptop built by a third-party company, so they had to contact my motherboard’s vendor directly. They thankfully were able to confirm that I have the latest BIOS installed already. Unfortunately, they confirmed that the cores power ratios cannot be accessed in my BIOS either.

My Processor:
Intel(R) Core™ i9-14900HX, 2200 Mhz, 24 Core(s), 32 Logical Processor(s)
My MOB:
Notebook X370SNx, “Sager, v1.07.14a, the BIOS version you have installed, is the most updated BIOS version for your laptop.”

I am unfortunately feeling rather certain I’m simply going to have to replace my i9 processor entirely. It seems WoW and 13th and 14th gen just aren’t compatible and those of us who can’t alter the core ratios will have to wait out both WoW and the processor generations themselves.

But, if anyone has any other troubleshooting suggestions in the meantime, I’m up for trying! I’m working with the company who built my laptop too.

Since you appear to have mods enabled, I would start with a full UI reset.

Then likely a Dxdiag

Done. I forgot to get a DxDiag earlier today when I did the reset initially.

Here’s the dxdiag pastebin: https://pastebin.com/skKRUzRw
Here’s an additional video taken just now of the error occurring again after a full UI reset: (sorry for the garbage truck noises) https://youtu.be/TrAipfZ9Xo0?si=j2JlV8h_gLNESlwS

The error reporting -

  1. Fault bucket , type 0
  2. Event Name: LiveKernelEvent
  3. Response: Not available
  4. Cab Id: 0
  • Problem signature:
  1. P1: 141

Indicates that this is a GPU driver issue.
The most recent nVidia drivers have had some issues with WoW. You may want to roll back to February’s drivers after uninstalling with DDU.

Done. Uninstalled nvidia graphics drivers with DDU in safemode, then reinstalled the Nvidia Feb 13, 2025 drivers found on google.

The divide by zero error took a lot longer to happen this time! But it still unfortunately happened.

I’m beginning to wonder if Intel is being dodgy (yet again) and not telling the truth with regard to them saying the HX processors (mobile) are unaffected by the issues plaguing 13th/14th gen Intel CPUs, as this is yet another HX user reporting this issue.

There is one other thing I’d look at if you can, and that is whether or not the RAM is seated properly. Laptops get moved around a lot and those SO-DIMM slots can get jostled enough to move ever so slightly. If your system has easy access to the DIMMs and you’re comfortable with the process, reseating the DIMMs is a good troubleshooting step. If they aren’t accessible, you can run memtest86 in its extended test mode and see if it finds any RAM errors. With regard to RAM, a divide by zero error is most often caused by a pointer (in software code) addressing a null, or empty address, hence the zero. Extended memory tests can help you determine whether or not you have either unseated RAM or just plain bad RAM, essentially giving you a targeted troubleshooting path.

Thank you for the additional suggestion! I’m busy tonight but I’ll do this test tomorrow and report back whatever I find out.

Update: While I was getting ready to put memtest86 on my flashdrive, my laptop company got back to me and sent me a BIOS from Sager (my motherboard’s manufacturer) to update to. I have NO idea why they wouldn’t give it to me when I asked initially? Or if making a new BIOS just for a single customer’s issue is… a thing Sager would do? Sounds unlikely but I am not knowledgeable in that. So! I’ve been crafting for around 30 minutes after updating my BIOS, still with no addons installed, and haven’t run into the Divide by Zero crash yet. I will do a bunch of crafting today in general as well as crafting with addons re-installed and see if I can get the error to happen again.

UPDATE 2 and SOLUTION:
No longer crashing with divide by zero when crafting thanks to the BIOS sent to me by my motherboard manufacturer! So, if you’re running into this and you have a laptop where your options are more limited, be willing to reach out and explain what’s going on to your manufacturers. I know it’s really annoying and your first attempt may be a non-started like mine was, but keep pushin’ and troubleshooting.
