#1 that its expensive with good boxing software you’re looking at about 800$ a year
My other big hobby gun collection and shooting cost me 10x that when im not shooting competitively and 20x that - winnings when i am thats an expensive hobby.
#2 that it requires an expensive computer I play 5 accounts on a 1200$ lap top thats just over a year old
#3 that it gives you an edge over other players. 5 on 1 depending on the comp im playing sure my 5 vrs 2 competent players and im in trouble again depending on the comp that im playing 5 on 3 and im toast. So its not so much an edge as a huge disadvantage. Of course there are better boxers than me playing better comps that can prolly hold there own. What i can do better than one player is farm materials.
Why do i do it because its fun. Playing one toon is boring to me. Although while ranking up in bgs next month ill play just my warrior. While ranking up my warlocks ill play 4 of them maybe my priest maybe not so you better hope following in bgs is not broken or you’re going to have warlocs running around at random and firing off spells at the closest target.
If you cant afford it fine. If you don’t like it, much like everything else in life, dont do it. Don’t crap on me, call me a cheater for playing the game the way i want to play it. I pay the same amount per account that you do. Personally i think all alliance should be at minimum 3 boxing to even the playing field against the horde but its all good. Good luck and thanks for reading. I will not read replies because ill be going back to practicing the dark arts known as multiboxing but flame away like i am.
I have no problem with multi-boxers but I’m really surprised Blizz doesn’t consider it cheating. You are not controlling all those characters, there is a script doing it. So at that point I don’t see the difference between multiboxing and bots/scripters.
ok i lied i had to fly back to repair so i did read some comments and apparently i did not dispell enough myths
I guess i can only speak for the program i use which im not going to name because they don’t pay me to advertise and im not sure if its against the forum rules and im not going to bother reading them for this. However there is absolutely no scripting. I use macros and key broadcasting the toons do nothing that i dont directly tell them to do. So say i want them all to cast a spell i build a macro and press 8 all 5 toons cast whats on 8 thats the whole of it. For movement 99% of the time its autofollow. So if you want to beat a multi boxer ya just run circles around em because i can play the main screen fine but the other 4 toons are basically keyboard turning. If you have ever done arena with a keyboard turner you know how easy they are to beat. Thats why its the opposite of a force multiplier. Im playing all 5 toons they only do what i say but due to the limitations of autofollow the more players i have to deal with the effectiveness goes way down.
Furthermore maybe some boxers are not nice eat up all the mobs and run over people but not everyone is like that if im in an area i help people finish off mobs and buff them with everything i can. If they cc something to kill in a bit i leave it alone.
Maybe some boxers are using scripts but I doubt very much that its the majority. There are tons of bots running around aka people actually cheating. As much as people report me and other boxers for whatever reason I think we would be getting banned in droves if we were using scripts or cheating in some fashion.
ps was not trying to brag just saying as hobbies go this one is pretty cheap esp when you figure in entertainment per hour
its all good if i dont do my part to educate the ignorant i have no right to complain that people are ignorant. I’m ignorant about plenty of things as well but you wont see me bashing on things i know nothing about and dont care to learn about.
As someone who 3-boxed in EverQuest for years, you’re missing the point. People don’t hate boxing because they can’t do it or can’t afford it. People hate boxing because they don’t want to feel obligated to box in order to progress and enjoy.
Boxers generally flaunt their spoils, which are much more easily obtained when boxing, and it comes off like a player-created pay-to-win situation. Every non-boxer wants to feel like the game is an equal-opportunity experience. If Human #24235 puts in 40 hours and gets a thing, I can expect to get similar benefits after putting in 40 hours. Boxers disrupt that view and mandate that they must invest more work and additional dollars to get on that same level field. It’s not that they can’t, but they don’t want to feel obligated to.
A common myth that many boxers believe is that Blizzard endorses boxing. They don’t. They tolerate it, much like other MMO publishers/devs. It’s not really feasible to prevent boxing (for a multitude of technical reasons), so it’s easier to just tolerate it. Not allowing /follow in BGs is an example where Blizzard is specifically making boxer life harder while not actually disallowing it.
Having boxed before is also why I don’t box now. Once you box in a game, you never un-box. Each day you don’t box is a day you feel like earning/grinding potential is being left on the table. If anything, you grow your box team. I don’t want to get caught in that cycle (again), so I don’t box in WoW.
Key or Key Translation Repeater. There is no automation. That is the reason that Blizzard has not banned boxing software. One of my posts has discussed that the creator of Isoboxer had discussions with Blizzard.
No, people generally hate when they feel that “things” are unfair and thus counting as cheating.
Otherwise, I’m not sure of the intent of this topic.
The tone of the OP’s post seems to suggest that people hate boxing because they don’t understand boxing. Or, as Part of Gkhan’s post argues, how essentially “even you, too, could box! So don’t get mad… get boxing!” basically. I contest that most people understand exactly what boxing is (most of the time, anyway) and/or could technically box if they liked to, but they choose not to box for other reasons.
If you, one player- casts 5 pom pyros on one other player- that player is dead.
If that player casts a pom pyro on one of your guys, that guy is still alive, and the other 4 are unharmed.
The instant kill potential is so massive with multi boxing that of course most players will hate it- knowing if you come up against this one player he will one shot you with ease isn’t exactly something that players are going to be happy about.
I don’t get why multiboxers do these threads to try to win the approval of others- it’s not going to happen, whether it’s technically cheating or not doesn’t really matter, to most players you are a single player that can do 5x the damage, CC and has 5x the hp of themselves, and you did that because you’re paying 5x the sub at the bare minimum.
They’re calling it pay to win because if there were an option to have 5x hp and damage but it cost 75/month it’d be called pay to win.
Wrong, it had everything to do with it. Prepared posted a link in another thread here to an old tweet from Brian Holinka stating that he was having /follow disabled because of a multi-boxer in the battlegrounds he was running.
