Not the profession equipment but they cost storm dust and exquisite weavercloth bolts so not really an option
Sitting on a fresh 70 looking at the first three pieces of gear you can learn are all 515 blues. The only green gear my level 80 tailor can craft is profession equipment which costs dust and cloth made with dust. I checked on the 70 first to see if my tailoring skill pushed them from green to blue but no, they’re blue from the start. So what three pieces are you thinking are green?
as far as I know there isn’t anything one can craft from tailoring, leather working or blacksmithing that can be disenchanted into storm dust.
It’s all coming from DE drops and quest greens from my personal experience.
All the tailoring stuff I can make on either of my tailors DE’s to shards.
Yeah I just finished leveling and all I’m reading about my professions has me even more discouraged than last expansion. (I’m also tailoring and enchanting)
I don’t have alts, and up until the end of shadowlands, I was self sufficient for crafting.
@Noray
Fellow Enchanter here too!! (on my Warlock that is). When I was grinding mats for Chitin/Venom/Blood (1500/1000/900) for the mount AND joining Bee groups afterwards, I was looting all kinds of greens/blues to disenchant. That’s how you’re going to get the most out of enchanting mats other than questing for them or just by blind luck when you loot Rare’s. That’s pretty much how you’re going to get a good amount of Storm Dust until the prices from the AH settle down, and yea, Storm Dust is pricy still. Good luck to ya!!
It’s not the rarity that is the issue, it’s the amount required. You need 50 for weapon enchants and 100 for one of the Crests.
Depending on farm rate, AH prices and just personal general preference I am not sold that framing mats is the best for enchanting.
Probably better off doing the WQ for 800 gold and just buying dust, as an example.
The prices for enchanting are tuned for a version of the game where the default drop isn’t blue from most sources.
They have to bring back shattering for materials over it giving some weird useless crafting buff
storm dust is selling for around 100g right now
so if I need 100 storm dust for an enchant, and I have to buy it, that’s going to add 10,000g to the price
100g x 100 = 10,000g (crests)
100g x 50 = 5,000g (weapon enchants)
thats just the cost of the dust alone.
if I want to make a little gold for my self I’ll have to add that to the cost.
Do you have alts with other crafting professions such as blacksmithing?
If so, just drop the green gear that you’re likely going to be mass producing for the early level ups to your profession skill into your Warband Bank. From there, have your enchanter pull out the gear and convert it into enchanting mats. And while it’s still way too early to see if it’ll be profitable, keep an eye on R1 material prices for the other crafting professions in relation to what it costs to craft those items, as well as the price of Storm Dust.
As an example:
Let’s say a smithing related item only takes a single Core Alloy to craft. Let’s assume that the price of a R1 Core Alloy drops to about 90 gold by the end of the month. As for Storm Dust, we’ll assume that is 45 gold each for a R1 dust and that the gear in question gets you 3-4 dusts at that rank (or better!)
Now, which would you rather sell?
The R1 Core Alloy at 90 gold, or the 3-4 R1 Storm Dust at 135-180 gold? Better still: if the dust you get is R2 or R3, then that’s potentially even more profit.
It’s something to keep in mind, especially if you’ve got multiple alts that all do crafting in some capacity.
It’s a bad situation, for sure.
I start all my toons with enchanting so I can supply my main enchanter with mats.
Another trick is to craft greens on an alt and melt them, but that’s going to most likely prove to be the same sort of challenge.
the crafted gear is all blue
People are arguing in trade over greens… price is between 80 gold and 300 gold… what in the world is going on?
If it wasn’t rare those quantities wouldn’t matter. Just like the blue/purple quantities don’t. Imagine you DE a blue and you get 10 dust along with your regular shards. DE a purple and you get 20, etc.
It wouldn’t matter at that point, and there would be plenty of dust to go around.
You’re trolling right?
Cats and dogs living together mass hysteria!?
I can second this. I have been farming bees for a few days trying to get both the bee mount (which was easy), and enough shards for Alunira (RNG is not my friend). I have been getting lots of green gear and a handful of blue gear from the things.
I do not enchant myself, but I just toss it at the guildmates who do. Make it easier on em.
Seems Blizzard is trying to stretch out the crafting professions farther this expansion than it was in Dragonflight.
Apparently you can do wax turn ins for dust. Might be another source to look into.
Yeh I haven’t gotten really into professional money-making before but enchanting is always a big money sink if you want to level it up early
My enchanter will wait until they buff rates or insert a breakdown of higher mats into dust
