SO!
I read these forums daily and what i mostly see is how people complain about 2 things…
- their class isnt viable (or OP)
- Other classes that are better than their classes
Now i read these and i have to think to myself “Why do you think you should be viable?”…I know i know…just hear me out!
What happened to the idea in this game (as in life) that there are classes and specs that are tailored to activities in game better than others? Why are we in this place where all classes are expected to be able to excel in every form of the game?
Resto druid are dominant in arena…because their tool set lends itself to excel in that environment, Holy priests do not…But Holy priests do well in Raid encounters where Resto Druids might not be able to keep up (theoretically)…
So what i would hear normally is “Buff resto for pve, buff holy for pvp”…but why??? Doesnt that take all the actual class intricisies out of the game? everyone can do everything?
Same on the DPS side…There are classes that lend themselves to pvp and those that dont…Where as those classes would excel in other areas of the game…
My point behind this wall of text is this…shouldn’t we rather accept the roles that classes lend themselves to and then make sure they are balanced IN THOSE SITUATIONS…rather than try and balance every class for every situation?
Would love to hear your thoughts.
There is no reason for them not to be viable at this point blizzard should be actively tuning but they don’t people shouldn’t have to reroll a class because it underperforming or outright useless.

By your Logic OP disc should be the best PvP healer because it’s toolkit is tuned for it.
Simply put, no. Nobody is asking for all specs to be superb at the same time, that’s not possible but your entire argument is flawed: Let’s say you main marksmanship hunter and you have 0 interest in raiding, you’ve done well in recent expansions but now suddenly your spec is only good for raiding, what do you do? Unsub until it’s better for the content you’re interested in?
The same happens if your main is suddenly good only for pvp but you’re a pve player, you unsub and wait? Rerolling for “fotm” reasons seems scummy and pretty much defeats the purpose of character progression.

Here is the reason why;
This game has been out for over a decade, and is apparently a leader in the gaming industry. They should, after having pruned classes and talent trees down so much, be able to balance every spec to be solid in both PvP and PvE.
It is not an impossible feat, just one that the company doesn’t put any importance on.

There should be distinguishable strengths for specializations, but there should never be a situation/aspect of the game where a certain spec is completely useless or not viable. Participation is what makes it feel like an MMO, if a spec can’t participate, what’s the point?
Ok, let’s make Druids the best at Pet Battles then, and be worthless in everything else.

There’s many things wrong with this approach, but the main thing is that class balance is constantly shifting. That guy that rolled holy priest for pve? Guess what it just got a nerf, now it sucks in pve. That guy that rolled resto for pvp? Oh hi now that’s nerfed too, better reroll. Viability in certain facets of the game doesn’t support class identity. Uniqueness does.
Yeah I was thinking this is easy to say when Rdruid is the best at M+ and arena lol.

Really?
If Blizzard is going to designate certain specs as being viable in only certain areas of the game, they should clearly label them beforehand so players don’t waste their time leveling/gearing unviable specs.
Also,
Just think, BfA is the product of 15 years of research and class design
