I’m not just talking about Grizzby’s or the rep one. All I do is look them up on some website. All this system does is funnel players to websites.
Put them all in quests that start at class trainers. Make them tied to challenges instead of random nonsense. Needing multiple meditation buffs from multiple altars for priests is so annoying.
Having to do these for every character at every level range makes me want to quit already. Back in vanilla, the most fun I had was the tier .5 quest chain. It was all straight forward, but difficult, back then.
I think that’s the key. Straight forward. Everything in classic wow was straight forward. I don’t want to have to “learn” irl a bunch of random game stuff just to be able to play my character.
Also, the process of upgrading the epic crafted gear is just as annoying.
I get you want to make profession materials relevant, but find another way, or just put them into quests.
I agree. Some of the runes are very easy to miss if you plan on doing it on your own without asking someone or looking online. A lot require more than one person to get, which after launch can be rough. I had to wait 5 hours, while asking in multiple chats, for someone to come click the life bloom portal. There is zero benefit to searching every inch of this game. Most chests you open just have cheese or a unique green box no one wants to loot. A lot of the runes are just flat out bad, some having been nerfed to the ground. All there is to do is google the ones you want, streamline them, and sit in town LFG so you can get the gear that’s on the community forced pre-bis just to get in to a level 25 raid. But this is WoW, did you expect anything different?
Yeah I did expect different. There was never anything in classic this vague, yet necessary for your character. All the extreme try hard parts of wow classic were tied to quests, professions, or dungeons, even if they were obscure quests.
All of this feels like busy work more akin to later iterations of WoW. Just fabricated content to take up my time unnecessarily.
Edit: The only thing I can think of from vanilla that was like discovering runes was finding a rare monster with a super unique item with a specific application like Tidal Charm. I’m not an expert on vanilla, but I’m pretty sure you can count examples like that on one hand.
“Straightforward” is exactly how I would describe going from Stratholme, to Dire Maul, then being told you need to go to Scholomance, then after going back to Dire Maul for the turn in, being told you need to go to Blackrock Depths.
This is just half of one step of that quest chain btw
I feel like there are a ton of things in Classic that some people call annoying, but are precisely the things about it that make it fun, for some of us (at least me), I think.
Yeah, stuff like this is usually only fun on initial release.
I also agree that its super easy to miss runes, just because theres a cooldown on a bunch of them. The poisoned adventurer at the end of the jasperlode mine that gives aegis had already been cleansed when i went there, so i thought he was for some other class, missed that one, and the adventurer’s remains I also missed when we went past that area, because it just straight up was despawned. Only found out about them after the fact, by looking them up.
The discoveries need more breadcrumbs i think, rather than just some of them being completely random and esoteric
Wanted to share something that you may or may not know and I just found out cause my warrior is lev 20. But, Some runes I’ve acquired I’ve not been using or I feel they are not offering me any benefit… Like the Blood Frenzy I was able to acquire this early on, but again, even with it socketed it shows me zero benefit… so I’m thinking it was bugged, until I made level 20 then I was able to learn Deep Wounds and bam… wouldn’t you know it… I’m actually willing to give this rune thing a second chance. I guess what I’m saying is that I’ve been able to acquire 5 runes so far and never felt my warrior was benefiting from any of them until I reached lev 20… Hopefully I’ll be able to check this new rune placement this afternoon.
Edit…
welp I went and tried that rune combo and you guess it… it didn’t work as I was hoping. I was a lev 20 (basic gear) in westfall and was killed by a small mob of gnolls… I was taking a chest and the gnolls respawn too fast. I was able to open the chest before my death… and know what was in the chest… the friggen waylaid crate someone else left behind… In other words… that chest wasn’t even worth taking in the first place. Needless to say IF these runes are not correctly balanced allowing me to place them in the talent tree instead of my gear… I’ll not be returning to SoD…
Quit wasting time and get Cataclysm rebooted already…
