I don’t get it.
Personally I think discord reminds me some stupid anime social network. Why do WoW players prefer it and most decent guilds require it? I understand requiring voice, but does the in-game voice feat not work or what?
Also, for roleplayers why do they insist on using MRP and TRP? And most decent roleplayers require it before they will initiate roleplay? I mean, the server says enough shouldn’t it?

Discord is just…a series of chat channels.
It allows people to stay in contact with each other out of game.
My guild also uses it to do things like, set up a channel for raid strats, etc.

But why not just use communities or in-game chat feats? I mean, it’s literally the same thing?

No. Its not.
I can’t place a series of raid strat videos in the in game chat channels that people can reference at any given time.
Can’t place a series of add on/weak aura suggestions for people in the in game chat channels that people can reference at any given time.

Oh, well I guess you can’t. I’m not a hardcore raider so I don’t know. I just get tired of the required discord and voice to join and decent guild.

Discord basically replaced the need for guilds to have a message board. Its a convenient way to communicate out of game.

Get untired of it or accept that you aren’t going to join a decent guild and do content with them.

If you DC while using in-game voice it often breaks and you can’t reconnect. it’ll give an error saying “Waiting for Voice chat server”. relogging sometimes fixes it but its very inconsistent.

Mrp Trp and addons like them provide additional information about the character one portrays; things that would overwise be difficult to convey in game. They’re no less ‘stupid’ than a character sheet for a tabletop game.
They also have the added benefit of indicating which players are actually rpers, as obviously not everyone on an rp sever actually roleplays or has an interest in roleplay.
As for roleplayers personally requiring others to have such addons; while I can’t speak for everyone I imagine many who are like that are so for security. People like to waste their time griefing rp; profile addons are one of the few means of filtering people like that as they don’t often go through the trouble of getting and setting up those things themselves.

I don’t understand people’s obsession with it, but then again I’m old enough to remember when IRC was popular and I’ve never been a fan of this need to stay constantly connected that people have today so…

Or wait 10 years for the next thing to replace it like Discord did with Team Speak and Ventrilo

While I haven’t heard anyone using Ventrilo recently, TS (and Mumble) I have seen in use.
Discord is just so convenient for WoW.

I hated discord initially, but It’s actually really nice. Especially if you’re a streamer, you kind of have your own space for everyone.

Hahahahahaha wut? Have you only been on WA for like 5min? All the RP servers are like 80% non-RPer and Blizzard doesn’t both enforcing ANY of the RP-Realm rules.

Discord is just really a series of chat channels that have little to no restrictions outside of what the server creator dictated. It’s really good in that if you and your pals use it, you don’t need WoW to stay in contact.

Just do your own thing bro.

I can’t log in to WoW to chat with guildies from my phone at work.
That’s what a good guild is, you know. A social thing.
