Since Blizz announced the Social Contract (which I don’t have a problem with), it seems that most guilds are now requiring Discord for guild interactions to do an obvious end run around the Social Contract. These guilds require new members to agree to the “their” rules in Discord in order to become “full members” of the guild. Curious as to what if anything Blizz will do about this. I mean seriously, is WoW still a game (my opinion) or is it some kind of ridiculous social network experience for people who won’t play by the rules. Unfortunately, it seems to have become a social network experience for a lot of highly toxic people who don’t care about the rules that either Blizz sets or society as a whole sets for decent human behavior.
Nothing. Blizzard has stated they don’t own Discord, and anything that happens there is Discords problem.
If you find a guild that has a “toxic” discord, leave. Not that hard.
I never expected this from online players, did you pay attention this weekend on the forums?
So, nothing has changed?
The individual Discord channel hosts/owners can enforce the code of conduct, if they so choose…and very often do. Or at least, they tend to have a set of rules that bear a close resemblance. It’s very easy to avoid channels that permit the the kind of behavior that is too harsh for those with vulnerable sensitivities.
Hello zero post low level alt.
This has been a thing for a while. The social contract has nothing to do with it.
Guilds can have their own rules. If you don’t like how a guild operates, leave and find a different one.
blizzard isn’t going to do anything. people can choose not to join that guild if they don’t like the rules - it is just that simple.
Heh. You think the Blizz social contract goes beyond Blizzard. That’s unique.
We’ve been using discord (and vent/ts before that) since vanilla. The social contract hasn’t stopped us from bullying each other in guild chat in wow, and it never will. We love it, wouldn’t know what was going on if I didn’t get at least 2 “l2p noob” a night >:)
Blizzard has no authority over discord at all.
I don’t usually get in discord voice chat. Text is fine. If someone is rude to me, I do a cute little clicky clicky and they stop existing. Then I keep being fabulous!
I dont get what you’re asking, are you actually asking blizzard to moderate based on discord chats?
WTF is wrong with you?
I just hope he isn’t Canadian - we have far too many of the people who want their lives controlled by the government, etc.
Exactly how it should be. I should be able to discuss “non-politically correct” ideology but if one platform doesn’t support that, another always will.
This allows people to interact without being in game to hang out.
Typing is annoying when raiding and communicating.
Can’t share cat pics in WoW.
If you disagree:
Don’t join.
Look for a guild that fits you.
Make your own guild and make your own rules.
Nothing. They will do nothing, because they use it themselves as well. You can’t ban something that is not tied to the same program.
As mentioned, Blizzard has zero control over Discord, nor has any ownership as to what individual Discord channels partake in. You also have full power to just leave a toxic Discord server. If a guild requires you to be in Discord as part of joining up and you’re unwilling to do so, you can join a different guild.
Discord will probably not do anything about this either: A guild requiring you to join their Discord server is a tad bit less serious than, say, ideological hate groups organizing bad things. Only will Discord take action then.
This isn’t something that’s happening
makes post stirring the pot
leaves and doesn’t return to discuss
