Discontinuing macos?

I get microsoft bought blizzard then cut off support for all those apple users who owned Diablo. Now they are ending support for the launcher (when Macos 28 comes out, the launcher won’t work - it’s currently running on rosetta).

This seems to me they are going through the back door to shut down macOS users. Blizzard is forcing users to use the launcher to log into the game. they have already done this with Diablo, overwatch, Call of duty.

No one at Blizzard will confirm they are working on a launcher for macOS. they are simply side stepping the question.

I read this as macros and was thoroughly confused and finally ready to take up arms in the Great AddOn War of the Mid-Late '20s.

Fortunately I’m just bad at reading, and so I can continue to not care all that much.

I doubt that they’ll discontinue support for MacOS. I don’t use it and am not familiar with it, but it would surprise me greatly to learn that Blizzard decided they weren’t interested in a large customer base with a demonstrably large amount of disposable income.

I mean Microsoft owns Windows which is the direct competitor to MacOS. I would expect MS to at minimum put heavy pressure on Blizzard to discontinue MacOS support.

If it currently requires a compatibility layer then that doesn’t sound like MS breaking it on purpose, simply not caring about that collateral damage. Not their platform, not their problem. Especially when it’s not even their update that’s gonna break it.

Why is Apple rolling out v28 that’s known to have broken functionality?

Me, too.

You can’t do that, there would be an anti-trust lawsuit and all that crap.

What Microsoft is doing is phasing out 32 bit computers, not phasing out customers. It is very unlikely that they will abandon all the Mac customers.

Also there was an anti trust issue that Europe raised about Microsoft blocking Activision Blizzard games.

I recall when I had a computer technician in to fix something on my not all that old computer that had failed. He mentioned it was a great gaming computer.

The next week I got a popup telling me that Windows 11 was coming up fast, my computer could not be upgraded, and I should buy a brand new computer right now. From Microsoft specifically is what the message read.

So do I think MS might have determined that enough WoW players are using Macs that it would be a big enough profit center to force them into buying a new computer to keep playing wow? I can see that happening.

Big companies break consumer protection laws all the time. Rarely does anything come of it. Microsoft is the company that designed Windows 11 to force everybody on Windows 10 to junk their old computers, at a huge cost and environmental impact, so MS could have access to our data and spam ads to us.

It might have worked, too. The government said not a peep. But millions of customers have either stuck with Windows 10, either upgraded to 11 and then gone back to Windows 10, or switched to Linux. Major computer manufacturers have stopped using Windows as their default OS on new compters. Huge embarrassment and loss for MS.

No… Apple is ending support. Not MS.

But Apple’s own update is breaking it.

MS has an incentive to work with them to fix whatever is wrong because they don’t want to lose customers. But they aren’t going to bend over backwards to devote a lot of resources to that either.

It’s a very different proposition compared to telling users to buy a new machine because they’re too stupid to buy and plug in a TPM. Those were existing windows users being sold another version of windows. Users in the Apple ecosystem are not switching to windows over this.

Because this:

The Battle.net launcher will not work on macOS 28 because the app is built as an Intel-only application that relies on Rosetta 2, which Apple is phasing out and removing in macOS 28.

When Apple launched the M1 chip in 2020, they gave developers a multi-year window to migrate their software to native Apple Silicon ARM64 architecture. Seven years later, Apple considers this grace period officially over.

Maintaining Rosetta 2 requires Apple to keep a full x86_64 (Intel) user-space copy of almost the entire macOS operating system active alongside the ARM64 version. Removing it eliminates massive engineering workloads, code maintenance, and testing complexities across dual architectures.

arm64 or die sounds like a lot of developers are going to pick die

After seven years of doing nothing? Probably.

get a PC next time i guess. it is what it is.

i read it as tacos
