I don’t understand. Why im still getting hourly internet drops. I will go a day and half without issues then it will disconnect me every hour from the first time it tries to fetch for dhcp.
Example: there was a windows update on Thursday the 6th and it worked for an entire day. Then at roughly 9:04 it disconnected me. I thought ok it was just cause there were more updates. But here I am and the problem has gotten worse.
I am using an Arris cable modem router combo model TG2482. It was only recently installed. The isp cant do anything to help me and honestly idk what other trouble shooting I can do.
Is this desktop/laptop ethernet internet or wireless like through a USB or wifi card?
desktop I am wired directly to the modem
Can you do a speed test and tell me your ping/down up/ download? It wi help me understand better with what we’re dealing with. Also are there other users on your network
just did a speedtest on speed test dot net: 108.13 down 7.99 up 12 ms
My mother uses a vpn to connect for work (im not exactly how that all works… not very tech savvy) so she says she is not having the issues as frequently as I am but has seen it happen on her end
Edit: the disconnect just happened at 12:32 central time
Is this VPN set up on the router or her personal computer. Your internet is more then enough and even better then mine
if I understand how it works… its ethernet from her work specific computer
Alright here is what you can try.
See if you can turn the vpn off because they aren’t always reliable when it comes to steady speed. ( more likely the issue)
Also try with a different ethernet cable
You can also try to go wiresss and see if it’s better if so it could be ethernet port issue on your end.
the cable shouldn’t be the issue since that was just recently replaced. Will see what I can do about going wireless?!
Alright tell me after playing the game or do something that requires steady internet use
i’m not exactly sure how to connect to the wifi or if this computer is wifi enabled tbh. it’s always been hardwired directly to the modem. As for my mom’s computer her vpn is on her company’s server side so she logs in to the vpn from her computer and it would have nothing to do with the modem and has for 8 years. ty for any help.
Here is what you can do to fix it
Okay then find your motherboards specific model go to there website and download there ethernet drivers
Windows tend to install there own version which is unreliable
Also update the router to the latest firmware
If that doesn’t work then do this
Reset the router to default settings like new from the store. Most routers start slowing down after years of use and best way to fix it is reseting the router.
If that doesn’t hell let me know
go ahead and run a winmtr. https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/27780
run it for 10-15 minutes and post.
I have been having this issue for months - I was able to narrow it down to my DHCP lease time in my router settings. Basically, it was set to renew my IP address every hour and sure enough I checked the time in network settings and it said the next reset was for 6:22pm, at 6:23pm I was disconnected from BNET and WOW and then reconnected.
Call your ISP and have them check, or if you are able, log in to your router by navigating in your URL bar to your IP address.
Depending on your router and ISP you may or may not have access to do anything, however if you are able, you can set it to 24 hours, which is typical for most ISPs.
If you do have to call your ISP, sometimes it helps to ask for a Tier 2 rep, since most of the lower tier reps don’t get too much into this sort of request.
Hope this helps!
