Disconnects only affecting WoW

Hello there,

To keep it short, I disconnect daily playing wow but programs like youtube, twitch etc. work fine while experiencing this issue. This did happen after moving to a new place, curious in helping find what’s going on. Thanks!

Streams and VOD use buffering techniques to smooth video, and have servers set up around the globe, where the game only has servers for the US site in 3 places. Routes can be different. This likely is not your internet, but no real way to test this route.

New internet too? How are you connecting now, and where from. Maybe your new internet service has limiters on game packets. Not sure, and no real easy way to check.

Edit: Kozzae got a reply in while I was typing . But yeah, basically same.

WoW requires a constant connection, and the services you’re comparing it to do not. Instead, they buffer information ahead of time so you get continuous playback. You can’t do that with a real-time game.

Additionally, those services are not hosted in the same building as the WoW servers, so you may have a bad route just for the game that isn’t affecting other things you connect to. Since you recently moved, the route is likely different from where you lived before.

Your options are:

  • Try a new Ethernet cable to see if the current one is damaged.
  • Try a VPN to see if it corrects the issue, then alert the ISP.
  • Try an alternative network (like a hotspot), and if it works, alert the ISP.
  • Talk to the ISP and have them check your equipment and signals coming into the home.
