Disconnect - Deserter debuff - great way to rub salt in a wound Blizzard!

I’ve been disconnected a few times by blizzard while doing dungeons and kicked out as a result. The disconnect is usually under a minute. When logging I go into rage when you see 30 minute debuff that states that "You recently deserted a group and may not queue again for 30 mins. If you get kicked it doesn’t mean I deserted…

Counterpoint: if you’re frequently disconnecting in dungeons you’re ruining the experience for the rest of the group and your kick was deserved.

Fix your issues, it’s probably not at Blizzard’s end if everyone else in the group was still online to kick you.

The timeout needs to GO…
it serves absolutely NO purpose…
the trolls in game will just hop on an alt if theyre removed for bad behavior. Its not stopping any of that.
The ONLY people it really affects is those who were kicked for trash reasons and those like yourself who DC.

its an antiquated crap punishment that needs to be removed entirely

Exactly, this debuff doesn’t help at all, it just gets in the way. It’s past time for Blizzard to remove this, or at least shorten the deserter time.

If they removed the deserter debuff people would just leave and requeue until they got the shortest/easiest dungeon in the pool. That is why the debuff exists.

and?
what the crap do I care? theyre gone from My group and if they mess around in the next group they’ll get kicked again…

literally no real problem here.

But it IS a problem when someone has two hours to play, gets DC’ed and now gets a half our timeout AFTER waiting 20 minutes to get into a run and now has to wait ANOTHER 20 minutes to get into another one. lmao.

For those who cant add thats 20+20+30…over an HOUR wasted of their time due to a DC.
POINTLESS…

Im not interested in going back and forth dude…you have the last word and I’ll ignore it

OK let me spell it out for you.

You load into city of threads. You tank leaves because this dungeon takes longer than Ara Kara. Then you get a new tank 30-60 seconds later, who also immediately leaves and requeues.

Repeat this 10-15 times and suddenly you’ve been sitting around at dungeon entrance portal for 15 minutes doing nothing.

This is what actually happened when the LFD system was first implemented in WOTLK. I was there. The deserter debuff was added to stop people fishing for the fastest/easiest dungeon.

If you didn’t get debuffed for being kicked, they would just AFK until you were forced to kick them. The debuff exists for a reason, and very rarely are people kicked for no reason.

If you’re consistently getting kicked from dungeons there is probably a reason.

So what? Just wait for someone to come and replace you; Not everyone is worried about how long the dungeon takes. And if the system punishes innocent people, there is something wrong with it, and changes are needed.

If the debuff is given to those who simply left at the beginning of the dungeon, without having attacked anything, ok, it makes sense. But giving debuffs to players who have been kicked is problematic, to say the least. And yes, people are rarely kicked out for no reason, in fact, they are kicked out for:

  1. Being new and not knowing what they are doing, which ends up punishing inexperienced players.
  2. They need to be away for a few seconds (child crying, a family member calling, among other situations).
  3. Refusing to give up an item you wanted because you think the world should revolve around you.
  4. The internet goes down, and they are punished for something that is out of their control.
  5. The tank doesn’t pull the way people want.
  6. The tank pulls more than it can sustain, resulting in a wipe and blaming the healer.
I often see people on the forum complaining about this, so it’s not something ‘very rare’. I myself have seen the examples I mentioned in items 1, 2 and 6 since I started playing again at the end of Dragonflight.

learn to read…NEVER SAID I WAS BEING KICKED lmao.

Again…the timeout serves NO VALID PURPOSE…its punishment enough to remove the problem player from your group.
IF he acts up in the next one, they’ll kick him too…HIS time wasted.

Id dont give a rats rump if the guy wants to leave.
YOU may enjoy FORCING them to stay so they can WRECK YOUR run out of spite…but I PREFER they just be allowed to leave so I can get someone who WANTS to be there.

Exactly.
MOST of the punishment is directed at people who were DC’ed or kicked by malcontents who kick for the fun of it based on the long list of Kicks Ive witnessed in 7+ years now.

The troll ISNT punished because he knows hes gonna get kicked, and he’ll just jump on an alt and troll on that one until his timer runs out
I got like 45 alts on my main account after pruning a list of them.
I could troll all day long on that many characters…swapping between them when i get a timeout.

The deserter crap ONLY punishes the player who didnt deserve to get kicked in the first place…RARELY does it actually affect the problem children in the game

No, they’ve done something with the servers since TWW drop that causes frequent disconnects for lots of players. They need to fix all their stuff before pointing any fingers at this point.

And lets say I agree with the counterpoint. Fine, I’m out of the dungeon, should I have to wait 30 minutes for a chance to do something again? I never once left a certain dungeon after the first boss while farming a trinket.

Except if that person is the tank or the healer, they didn’t waste any time, because their queues are instant.

So what tanks used to do is queue for a random dungeon, then leave if it wasn’t the particular dungeon they wanted. And this would happen time after time while the other 4 players waited 10-15 minutes for a tank who wouldn’t instantly leave.

The deserter buff was implemented specifically to discourage this behaviour.

Ok, so as the tank i’ll go attack 1 mob and then leave, because this dungeon is slower than the other dungeons in the pool.

I dont care what the excuse it is there for…here and now today it being used as a harassment tool by jerks in game that is a much larger issue than some whiny tank wanting to be kicked
If he wants to leave, how desperate are WE to try to FORCE him to stay so he can trash our run? lmao

I’ve been playing since WOTLK when the dungeon finder was first implemented. In that time I can count the number of times someone was kicked for no reason on one hand.

LMAO…by your joke illogic Obama doesnt exist because IVE never actually seen the man.

Do better next time or dont bother.

If you’re being kicked from a group regularly, you should look inwards and try to work out why, instead of complaining about a system that has worked fine for literally 15 years.

LMAO…now we’re gonna deflect and dodge because we’re WRONG lmao.
I dont get kicked…havent since 2018…AS I said…do better.

lmao

PERIOD…

as for the trolls here…ignored
