tonight playing on Doomhowl, around 1:30am EST, I was killing the trolls in northwestern STV. I had looted the third troll legend and was moving over to the 4th, I was in combat with two mobs when I d/ced. I was able to instantly log back in, but when I got back in I had been teleported to the location where I looted the third legend 3-5 minutes prior with full respawns around me. I was not lagging or desynced, my ping was normal and I was using abilities/fighting mobs just fine.
A couple people saw the death log event and whispered me asking if I got d/ced because they had also just been d/ced and teleported to a location their character had been at previously so it seemed like a server event that at least affected multiple people.
Since when do characters get rolled back to a location they had been at minutes prior to a d/c? Shouldn’t I have logged back into the same location I was at when I disconnected so I could continue fighting the mob?
You probably had a full rollback, check your inventory. I’ve seen it happen to me, but that happened only when I log back in after maintenance, and let the server DC me when it shut down.
is there any way I could have known my disconnect was actually a “rollback” and that I was going to be teleported directly to the center of an area with several hostile mobs? If i knew that I wouldn’t have logged back in, and could have used the character unstuck service.
There was no server maintenance or warning that I was aware of it, was a fairly normal time around 11:30pm in server time with no indication of problems that I was aware of.
This is an old bug, and has happened ever since Vanilla launced. On a DC you’re sometimes put “back in time”.
And no, you cannot see it, and it can even happen without a total DC. Inability to move or do anything, a flicker of the screen, and wham.
All you can do is complain, and ask for more stability for HC servers.
I’m not telling you “what happened” I’m telling you my experience, so you can get a better idea of what might have happened to you.
this is just how hardcore is
