Hi! I am planning on tanking PUGs alot (leveling and at 60) and when you PUG most of your 5mans, you tend to run into a lot of different personalities. IIRC, running 5 mans in Vanilla WoW was much more involved than it is today in retail and you tend to spend more time with your party on avg.
So, I was thinking about creating a macro for /p chat to disclose my expectations for everyone’s behavior and attitude but I don’t want to come across as arrogant or presumptuous. I just want everyone to have fun and I want to avoid drama/raging as best as I can.
The reason I was thinking about doing this is so that everyone goes into it understanding my tolerance level and that I don’t tolerate name calling or people raging or starting drama. Is this a good idea or will it come across the wrong way to most? Does any other tanks plan on doing something like this?
“CC the X, attack my target, don’t attack until I’ve hit the damn thing.”
Then go about your business. We had a simple rule in classic. Tank dies, healers fault. Healer dies, tanks fault. DPS dies, their own damn fault.

I will be playing my Prot Warrior and if Dps are dumb they will get agro and die. I will laugh and continue on with my day.

As well meaning as I’m sure this is (and I expect I’d agree with your requirements), if I saw a tank list off their expectations at the beginning of a run before there were any issues, I’d definitely roll my eyes. I might even drop group as my expectations for a fun run would actually decrease.

You would sound like a control freak d-bag. Macro message that advise CC will be used and no one but you is to pull would be ok.
But don’t automatically expect bad behavior before you begin or it can be a self fulfilling prophecy.

I don’t think you need to make that macro.
Most people want the group to succeed and want to complete the dungeon run successfully. Of course, you’re going to get the odd prik or drama queen in your travels and that’s when you can warn them of your tolerance. Just my two cents.
I would kick you immediately.
Just say “Hey everyone, let’s have fun and be nice to each other. Skull = Kill, Moon = Sheep,” etc.
edit: Just another thought upon reflecting. I have found that setting a good example encourages others to follow suit. The tank is the natural leader and calls the shots. So if you are leading the group, it will generally have a good vibe. The most toxic groups are often led by a toxic, elitist tank.

Well in classic you will need to do something to get the right group together to begin with.
You can’t just wait and see and kick a player while in the dungeon because it will take you forever to get a replacement.
That mindset from retail won’t work in classic

As the server starts, it is probably best to have some sort of a discussion about loot rules for a PUG dungeon. That discussion could easily be started with a macro. “As the server is new, let’s discussion the loot expectations for the dungeon before we start. Need (dice) is a direct upgrade for the role you are currently playing unless negociated before the start of the dungeon. If the piece of gear you roll need on is bind on equip, we want to see you equip it. Greed (coins) is to sell or disenchant. Unless everyone agrees that the enchanter gets all the pieces of gear at greed, at which point, we roll for shards at the end of the dungeon. You don’t get to roll greed on gear and then roll on shards.”
^^ This. Thats why I was thinking about this as a tank. I feel like I have the right temperment to be a tank but I can only tolerate snobby, narcissistic, hot headed, people for so long before I am just like “F it, Im out” and I end up ruining the other 3 people’s 5 man… so I’m just very proactive when it comes to this kind of stuff because its the most frustrating thing about vanilla but I guess some people enjoy the drama, so IDK.
Absolutely be proactive. But you can only do so much.
Idiots will get a rep real quick and over time you’ll know which players NOT to invite when you do your LFM for dungeon runs.
At low levels you won’t know but the endgame dungons…yeah you will know which players are a$$hats.
See I don’t know about that with this new layering system they are going to implement. We still don’t know what server cap is going to be (some people expect it to be like somewhere between 10-20k which far above what it was in Vanilla) and the amount of people who stick around after the “hype” has died down.
When i used to tank back in 05, i would almost always say the following.
Hi guys. I am not super experienced at tanking. To be safe give me a few seconds to build aggro.
This usually went well. I would get advice. Strategies. Etc. I never assumed anyone could or would CC.
Most issues come from loot, so if you are organizing these PUG groups you gotta be straight forward and transparent about how loot will be allocated, always.
As for the behavior thing, just put your code of conduct or w/e in your target/cc macro - you know, the one that says, "Skull = Kill 1st, Moon = Sheep, etc.)
Layering is temporary. Eventually everyone’s going to be on a single layer per realm and reputations will get around via word-of-mouth. Layering can only protect the idiots for a finite amount of time.

Vuralyon…you will remember the true idiots.
I still have the name of one hunter burned in my memory because he tried to screw over our group in the ogre cave in Loch Modan…the elite boss guy. The 2 minions kept spawning and he’d tag them over and over taking them from our group. Then I get a whisper “Do you have any arrows to spare” ROFLMAO…the boss spawned and our group tagged him (we were there first and waiting and I was a hunter).
Layering will be gone by phase 2, and the server pop will then be all in one layer which should be a vanilla population cap. (2500-3k) By that point the community will be solidifying and you as a tank will likely have a list a mile long already of people who you would never run with again for all the money in the world.

If you have any macro to say anything beyond loot rules or how pulls/cc/marks are going to be, I’m going to immediately assume you’re a control freak who will bork the first pull and wipe the group and follow it up by yelling at everyone because you think it’s everyone else’s fault.
