Discipline/Holy - Raid Frames and Keybinds?

What’s everyone’s preferred setup for raiding? Mouseover Macro/Addons? I mostly play shadow and I’m curious since I could see movement being annoying with mouseover casts as I mainly turn my character with mouse.

I use Elvui’s raid frames and clique for mouse over stuff.

I use Plexus/Clique for my healing bars, anything but healbot!

The default raid frames. I click on people to target them and then press whatever bind I have for the heal I want.

I don’t like using mouse over macros or healbot because they make it very hard to utilize the spell queue God forbid you have to use your mouse for something else in an encounter (especially in high mobility encounters if you’re a mouse turner like me).

How is this different than using a mouse over except it’s the extra clicking step that mouseovers avoid? The “God forbid you have to use your mouse for something else” comment is irrelevant to your method. I suppose you could F1-F5 target in a party but that’s not what you suggested they do and won’t work in a raid.

If you use macros to do your mouseovers you can set them to work on your selected target as a backup if a mouse over doesn’t exist and gets you the best of both worlds. Plus your macros won’t break during an update.

I use vuhdo and have some mouse overs but not all my binds are mouse overs.

Because I can’t mouse turn and use a mouse over macro at the same time nor can I use my mouse for anything else when I need to cast. If I need to heal people and click on something like the anima containers in HoA I can. With standard targeted casting I can preemptively target someone I need to heal, like the tank, and move/mouse turn while casting whatever I need on them. Same for any other party member. This isn’t a problem for someone who exclusively uses the keyboard to turn and move.

I exclusively mouse-turn (I rebound strafe to A & D to use Q and E for ability binds) and using a macro like I posted works well for these situations. I can quickly mouseover heal when able and heal a selected target when needed. It does take some getting used to though.

Also since I play all specs literally all of my character specific macro slots are used up :-/

OK, I can get behind the idea that the default raid frames can be customized to be good enough (letting WeakAuras do more of the heavy lifting)… but no mouse over macros?!

That’s just heresy right there.

I was the same way in BFA on my Monk healer. I decided to challenge my old habits with Shadowlands (mouseover macros, no keyboard turning) and have really enjoyed it. Being able to keep the enemy targeted also helped me get better at weaving in DPS in Mythics.

Vuhdo. Best raid frame.

u can turn inside raidframe by using Vuhdo.

If you need to turn and move to avoid mechanics, and heal someone like a tank at the same time, how do you heal them with mouse over macros?

Yikes. Ewwww

I have them targeted just as you would and hit my macro. If no allied mouseover target exists it goes to my target.

However I think you are over emphasizing this “issue” a bit. It’s a very unlikely situation you happen to already have the person who needs emergency healing targeted and you need to do a 180 turn while healing them on the move. Mechanics that make you move tend to be easy to predict anyhow.

I use my mouse to turn and mouse over macros with default raid frames. I think mouse over macros are essential for disc because if you’re wasting time tab targeting back to enemies to atonement heal then your hps drops significantly.

As far as moving while mouseover I can move in 3/4 directions. Unless I have no choice but to move backwards I’m fine. I can spread pws atonement while strafing left right or running forward to do mechanics. I’m pretty comfortable watching raidframes and my character at the same time now. Moving around with keyboard without stopping casting.

I use vuhdo (which has the option for mouseover macros in the addon - very handy). I’ve used it for a number of expansions now and don’t really have any desire to switch. 90% of the time I move with my mouse and I’ve never had any issues, but it might just take practice to get used to it.

I’m just now realizing this is a problem I have. Kind of seems like a big deal.

I think I’m gonna spend today making some macro’s to try out for my push runs tonight.

Yeah I used that wow analyzer thing for logs on my second week of disc raiding. Realized I was only at like 80% active time because of the constant tab targeting to the right enemy to atonement heal. Got mouseover macros and now I’m sitting at like 97%+ depending on mechanics. That one change was like 1.5k hps
