Disciplinary Command

Disciplinary Command needs to be reworked to either provide Critical Strike chance or pure damage. The proposed buff will only make Fire Mages swap to it, when it is already very good for Fire Mages. The fact that Disciplinary Command grants Critical Strike damage is odd, since a legendary power that provides Critical Strike damage already exists a via Fevered Incantation.

My proposed change below: "Casting a Frost, Fire and Arcane spell within 10 sec of each other increases your Critical Strike chance of all your spells by 50% for 15 seconds. This effect can only occur once every 30 sec.

No.

Fire: You are essentially giving them a mini-combustion every 30 seconds and pushing the kindling talent even further ahead for even more frequent combustions.

Frost: All that critical strike would almost completely useless because of shatter. The only spells that would benefit would be non-shattered Frostbolt and Blizzard. It would still be the weakest legendary even for frost mages who aren’t at the shatter cap.

Arcane: This legendary would ask every Arcane mage to add yet 2 more non-damaging casts before every ToTM. It would turn every ToTM burst window into: Frost Nova->Fire Blast->Rune->ToTM before finally being able to cast any damaging spells. Not to mention how the concentrated bust from the crit will push Rune even further ahead, killing off any talent combination other than Rune+OP.

Is there anyone here who actually gets any charm out of the “casting a frost fire and arcane spell” gimmick? Is this some ode to classic or something?

Pretty sure the appeal of using different schools of magic comes from like… adeptly using their different utility. Not to just cast an awkward low dmg rotation for the pretty colors.

The crit dmg is not the problem with this lego imo. Like you said it’s least awkward for Fire and Fire already has a good crit dmg lego.

That leggo would definitely be a lot better if they brought something like Frostfire Bolt back. As it stands, and is mentioned, it is akward to use in a PvE sense.

Here’s my quick-and-dirty buff suggestion:

  • Casting a Frost, Fire and Arcane spell within 10 sec of each other grants you Hot Streak(Fire), 2 Charges of Fingers of Frost(Frost), or 3 stacks of Clearcasting(Arcane). This effect can only occur once every 30 sec.

  • Fire, this wouldn’t be much of a buff, since you would need to hardcast a frostbolt(or frost nova) into an arcane explosion; to get just 1 extra hotstreak.

  • Frost, this would substantially assist movement; since you can use the instant Fire Blast, and the Instant Arcane Explosion to grant you 2 Fingers of Frost for Ice Lances… creating reliable meaningful damage during heavy movement.

  • Arcane, this would require a precast Frostbolt/Frost Nova into a Fireblast; but would allow reliable Clearcasting generation. Albeit with yet more DPS downtime.

So … I hesitate to post this, almost, as it could wind up getting something nerfed, but…

My first leggo was Disciplinary Command. I eventually made Glacial Fragments as well, and just made Slick Ice, so I’m not sure I’ll ever use DisCo again, but I have found the following: If you take Rune of Power, you will need to cast both a fire and an arcane spell to trigger DisCo. The arcane spell can be RoP, or it can be an interrupt, etc., not just damaging abilities like Arcane Explosion. The fire spell is typically Fire Blast.

But if you take Incanter’s Flow instead of Rune of Power, it doesn’t seem to need both a fire and and arcane spell. Simply a fire spell will work. This saves one GCD in the trigger sequence. I can’t really explain why this is, unless when IF cycles it counts as an arcane trip/cast.

For that matter, I haven’t even really tested this back and forth to confirm suspicions. I simply know that after swapping RoP to IF a few days ago, DisCo suddenly stopped needing a dual-school cast to trigger it. I’ll continue to work with this a little and report back.

I get the feeling they ripped it straight out of Diablo, or one of the many ARPGs out there. Certainly Wolcen has talents that increase damage when a different damage type is used. The problem is, they took a not-fun mechanic and ignored all the good things about D3.

I can’t say I’m too excited for this change. How many times is this going to go off accidentally in keys if I’ve nova’d and counterspelled lol.

This legendary needs to be changed one way or another. It’s absurd that this is just a better fevered incantation during combustion. I also learned that the arcane portion of this legendary procs off of trinkets or RoP being placed by combustion, removing half the set up requirement entirely. Casting frostbolt before combustion is going to be too easy.

Additionally, I do not like how this legendary favors fire way more than the other two specs for being a generic mage legendary. It should give a flat damage buff in my opinion. It should also require hitting enemies with the spells and not just casting them. It would create balance with arcane mages since Fire/Frost would have to either be in melee range to use it or waste a counterspell.

That’s my problem with it. It’s a buff I guess but it’s an annoying way to go about it. If I had to use a different legendary, I would have liked the meteor one.

i just made this lego for my pvp set and doing dummys today for the first time to test I noticed I didn’t need to cast an arcane spell and have incanters flow talented so must be the reason. In pvp I constantly use shimmer anyway but this makes it even easier to activate and saves those blinks for trouble lol.
