Hello!
I have been learning about soft caps and how they work in PVP. I was wanting to know if any experienced/knowledgeable players could offer some guidance for my stats.
Currently, I main disc on my other toon and my stats in pvp are:
Crit - 5%
Haste - 21%
Mastery - 57%
Versatility - 41%
It is my understanding that crit/haste/versatility specifically have soft caps at 30% and have significantly less value past that. Mastery has a seperate soft cap depending on the class.
If this is correct, than is it worth dropping some of my versatility to pick up more mastery/haste?
Yes
You don’t need more than 30% vers on disc. Mastery is way more healing

The first DR is at 30% of a stat, or for mastery lets just say 30 mastery and not 30%. This first soft cap of 30 mastery is 5400 rating. The % display is the only thing different for each class as 1 mastery may not equal 1%. For disc priest, 1 mastery is 1.4%, putting first DR at 42% and the second DR at 54.6%. After first DR, 1 mastery (1.4% mastery for disc) will instead take 200 rating instead of 180, and after second DR will take 225 rating instead of 180.

crit is next to useless being that it’s got a 50% nerf in pvp and unless your class has inherent synergy with crit (disc doesn’t) it’s almost never good
haste for fluidity- the more haste you have, the faster you’re spending mana to do effective healing. any millisecond you spend not using GCDs reduces the effectiveness of haste by a considerable amount
vers is the best stat for damage reduction, but disc is already pretty durable. vers is good for damage too, though your role in an arena is to sustain a healthbar. i wouldn’t go below like 25% on this
mastery will always do more healing than any other stat because it only does healing, you can’t “misuse” mastery and the only situation where mastery won’t have any use, is a game where you didn’t heal
i’d allocate 10-12% of your vers into mastery and keep haste around where it is, if shuffle’s your main concern maybe allocate more vers into haste instead

if you google secondary stat DR you can see the image with rating thresholds. personally, for me, I can’t play on less than 14% haste and 60% mastery. vers always kinda falls in line unless you intentionally craft pieces without vers. so, 14H, 60M, 30V is pgood season over season for me.
Ill do you one better and just copy a table I made a few days ago in a different thread.
