So I’ve played like 70 rbgs and got into some decent groups, toxic groups, and in-between. But my question isn’t about groups.
When I queue into these rbgs with another disc I always see them output so much more healing than me. I can’t figure out why. I use radiance a lot, I shield when I can, I barrier when I need to, and I’m spamming heals as long as someone is taking damage (or precasting if I think damage is coming). My dispel is always on CD as well. But the match is over and my damage and healing is lower than most other disc. I know stats don’t matter but I would think they are telling at some point. Any suggestions on how to improve this or is it even worth caring about?
I see you talking about direct healing a lot and saying they’re beating you on healing and DMG. I’m no pro, but I think it sounds like maybe you aren’t utilizing your atonement healing enough. On my priest I use radiance not only as a direct heal, but also to spread atonement and then dot up as many enemies as possible.
Your conduits look like they’re kind of low, can’t really tell if your profile is up to date or not, but the Radiance conduit shows as 158. Upgrading that via RNG on callings/WQs could help. There’s a conduit to reduce cost of dispels, and if you’re casting that much it could help to slot it. You might switch out Castigation talent for Twist or Schism and Shield Discipline for Mindbender or Solace.
I tried this route but it feels like when I quit healing to assist in dps my attornment doesn’t quite cut it (at all). Maybe I’m just missing my windows and need to focus more on the transition.
Yeah my conduits are low, I need to work on. Those and I’ll upgrade my legendary soon. The talents I have are for arenas but not much really changes except the pvp ones and I get knock.
I also hate that I have to do over lol I get 2 to 3 hours a night 5 days a week. I just want to pvp. But I get it, it has to be done
It’s not so much a switch over to dps, but if no one is in immediate danger I am spending those gcds on applying pressure via multi dots, mindgames and mind blasts. Especially dotting 3-4 enemies adds up a lot.
That makes sense… How much would you say your dispelling. every 8 seconds i’m taking a cc off of someone if I can. So I should getting attonement up, applying pressure and still dispelling about every 8 seconds if there’s a cc?
From my perspective I didn’t check your profile, but I stopped running Trinity because you can only apply atonement with PWS. PWS has a big mana cost and so does Radiance. I’m talented for ultimate radiance but only use it when I have to in those Oh Crap situations.
I use shadowmend a lot, it applies atonement, and I penance as damage mostly. Penance doesn’t apply atonement.
If you can, after applying atonement, Purge the Wicked, Penance (to spread the dot), use your pet and PW Solace as much as you can. Definitely use Mind Blast and Mind Games as much as possible. All of these will heal your allies with atonement active.
PWS if you need to, but only if health just needs topped off because it costs too much mana for the small benefit you receive.
You can run Dark Angel to help your team with your atonement do more damage and it also increases your damage. Or if you feel more comfortable with it you can run Archangel.
I probably don’t dispel as much as I should. For the record though I don’t run trinity in rbgs either since you can’t slap atonements on everyone via radiance.
I’m with you, I only dispel if it’s something detrimental to health or a cc I can dispel. I don’t worry about it too much other than those situations unless I’m not doing anything else.
my Talents are causing some confusion, so I did a wowhead calc on what I typically run. The last pvp talent is either Purification, or purifed Resolve, beacuse I dispel so much
Yeah I think i’m learning Shield is pointless in anything more than 3v3, and a waste of mana.
I’m absolutely horrible about tracking CD’s, so i tried this once or twice, but I forget to use it lol.
I was in a bg where people were “yelling” about not getting dispels fast enough (of course it was another disc priest yelling while she was feared, and my dispel was on CD). But I don’t like to not look at myself and say ok, maybe I’m missing something. So I try to dispel on CD (when there’s CC or mind games up. On CD is probably an overstatement. But if I Have Dispel and anyone is CC’d of any sort that I see, or Mind games is up, I’m dispelling it).
From the sounds of what everyone is saying, i’m using like half my spec by not letting atonement do more of the heavy lifting. Sounds like i’m trying to be a holy pally on a disc priest almost.
I have this same issue in Arena’s where i’m afraid to let atonement do more bc of how bad burst is.
Ya, I’ll dispel cc’s if it isn’t going to cause me to let someone die. The other thing is the prevalence of aff locks and sps that scare me off of dispelling too much. For the record I run ult radiance/dome/dark arch in rbgs and ult/dome/trinity in arena. I would try to get used to using dark arch though. It isn’t a direct impact on your dmg/healing, but I will roll up on a node with 2-4 of my dps, drop a radiance right off the bat and pop dark arch dot as many as I can and mindgames. A good mindgames crit on someone with atonements spread is a lot of big numbers.
I run the penance legendary. You’re radiancing constantly in RBGs and when it proc, it means penance hits like a hammer. Its suddenly great for target healing your team not just attacking.
As we’re close to encountering the other team I try and shield myself and the melee
I usually drop cool downs as our teams clash. I often drop either dome or rapture and shield up the team.
I usually begin by dotting up at least 3 enemy and then apply radiance to top folk off and apply more atonements.
At this point I begin healing. If my team is okay - I target the focus and dispel/dispel/dispel (and apply more dots to enemies). If not, I focus on healing, using radiance when it’s up and spirit mend if not.
And if I can I fear and use leap of faith to pull other healers out if they’re being targeted.
It seems to work well although I WILL say gear is everything. The more you can replace the 197s the better you’ll be.
I wouldn’t worry too much about the crap that’s said in random bgs. Only dispel when you feel you need to. That’s a lot of pressure you’re putting on yourself to be perfect at everything, but you’re going to run out of mana and not apply atonement when you need to and/or not dotting people when you can so your atonements get healed.
Instead of Mindbender, I would run PW Solace, you get more mana back, it’s on a shorter timer and costs 0 mana while healing your atonements and adding damage. You still have a pet as well so it adds extra damage and healing. Just use it as much as you can to get the benefit from it.
Thanks, i’ll start working on it when I do my next RBGs or randoms.
I’ve had a hell of a time trying to get this with no luck.
Pretty much everything you said I already do, except this. I obviously need to get my dots up. This may be a big part of what i’m doing wrong.
I’m sorry I meant RBGs, and she was a much higher rating, so I typically listen to anyone, but especially higher rated players than me.
I think the reason I got away from this is the whole previous dot statement. I’m just not good at getting those applied, so I went away from this one. I really need to improve on that for sure.
Spreading your dots really helps. Especially when you’re grouped up your radiance should be on everyone nearby, up to 10 people. And dots on multiple enemies can pour white healing into your team.
I remember when healers just healed… All this cross contamination crap isn’t fun… Actually I remember when disc had mana burn I miss that. Of course that’s also when a resto druid could run around the arena/bg in travel form and hots would keep everyone up.
