In raids Disc priests need to time their ramp ups. But doing do means knowing the damage patterns.
That in mind, has anyone ever used anything that visually shows the raidwide damage coming out as it hits? I mean some kind of real time graph or something? This is not so much beneficial real time, but would be beneficial if you want to learn when the big damage went out for the next time you do the fight.
WarcraftLogs will show overall damage, so you can see when the spikes are, and even separate out damage by spell to identify the source.
I usually look at logs, identify the damage spikes and what spells are causing them, then look at the timers for those spells and allocate my ramps to match them as much as possible. Then during the fight I just keep an eye at the boss mod (DBM / Big Wigs) or whatever other thing that triggers the damage to know when to ramp.
You can also look at what other Disc players are doing to see if it matches. Take into account that things might change a bit when working together with other healers.
Yeah, that makes sense, sure. Was just thinking it would be cool to see everything unfolding in real time so you didnt have to watch timers.
It would be a pretty interesting tool/addon, I imagine it like something that pulls a graph from warcraftlogs and slides through it showing you what’s coming up next, it would have some degree of variation depending on the fight and how consistent your group is but could be pretty nice.
If it’s just watching timers you don’t enjoy, I have weakauras do it for me. I set it to make a sound when my DBM timer for the spell I input reaches the time I input (5 seconds before, 10 seconds before, etc).
You may want to check out the WA “burst timers” doesn’t do everything that you are looking for but it’s really helpful for learning the ramp up windows.

In my case I run a ton of dungeons (including leveling a few mechagnome priests on a few different servers) and so setting things up for a more generalized approach would be very helpful. If you are doing the same content over and over, like the current raid, then I can see a more specific spell by spell approach is best.

I go through the boss timers on bigwigz and delete the ones that dont matter to me and put a verbal count down on the ones that do
Yeah, that’s pretty much what I do too. Less clutter makes it a lot easier to keep track of what’s important.
I use the verbal countdowns a bit differently, I don’t put countdowns from the same bars I kept on screen and instead I use it to notify me about something I need to be ready for but it’s not healing related (so the bar is hidden for me).
