Do you guys(more experienced Disc Priests) feel like Disc could use a bit more in terms of an extra ability or two? Whether it’s a CC ability, utility or a mobility ability, or 1 of each? Some people don’t like “button bloat”, but I find myself wishing I had an extra 2-3 abilities as Disc
It just feels like in the current iteration of the game, Disc feels a bit “bare” or lacking some vital CC/utility/mobility to make a difference. If they tuned down other classes CC/mobility, I think I wouldn’t notice it, but I feel it just lacks in the current mold of a game where classes are hyper mobile with a multitude of CC options.
After playing Resto Shaman and Prevoker throughout dragonflight, I leveled and geared a Disc Priest because I love the concept of it. At first it was the lore concept; a cleric that walks the line between the dark and the light, using immense resilience and uh, well…discipline to also tap into the “dark” side of reality and control it(Void elves are a good fit). I started really liking the playstyle as well though, much more then holy priest. But Holy has Chastise(Stun) and an option to get Divine Ascension as a pvp talent if you’re getting trained by melee(an issues that priests face in pvp due to lack of ). It just has more of an arsenal then Disc. I don’t like the emptiness on my main action bars.
I just think they could flesh the spec out a bit more. It can feel overly reductionist. Or is that what I’m missing? Do people like a spec that doesn’t have all the bells and whistles like a Resto Shaman? It’s not what I would consider an easy spec, but it’s kind of stripped down. It’s very disappointing what happened with the spec talent tree as well. Nice change to Rapture, but…what else was there? (Priest talent tree could use some love as well, too many 2 point talent nodes).
Disc has a great design in terms of how fluid it feels. The interplay between abilities is great. The way your power word: radiance applies atonement to a group —> increase bolts of Penance ------> increased shield absorb/damage, etc. I just think it’s one of the few specs that could actually benefit from having a couple more abilities.
As a newer, coming up Disc Priest in PvP, I don’t personally feel like we are lacking any specific abilities. I know mobility is rough but that’s intended. With that said, I wouldn’t be opposed to Door of Shadows making its way into the Priest Class Tree.
Honestly, I thought that Disc had 1 too many abilities in the sense of keybinds until I did make a macro for Purge the Wicked/Renew on the same bind.
Overall, the thing that Disc lacks for me is powerful instant healing. Something to really save a target with a huge chunk of healing. Or even multiple targets.
From my playing so far, you really must be on top of keeping your team healthy before damage comes. Because once you start to fall behind, you have a difficult time going back up.
As a pvp disc main for like a decade (five discs 2400+cr in solo right now), I 1000% agree we are missing something and i believe that is utility.
I strongly believe that missing piece of utility is door of shadows.
Currently, I do not like the state of Disc priest. I feel like we’re missing a lot. No stun, no silence (thanks priest dev), Mindgames being made a PvP talent. I’m consistently lowest healer in every raid and battleground I’m in. Currently I just don’t feel like there’s a reason to play Disc. Holy have strong single and AOE heals and if I want to play an offensive healer, MW has a stun, silence, tigers lust, multiple rolls/chi torpedo, ring of peace…
Maybe I’m just complaining but disc feels lame in TWW. Hopefully hero talents help.
Was that a shadowlands ability? I missed that whole expansion. Only started playing disc in DF. I hope they would consider adding that(at least that, if not a bit more).
I feel like R- Sham is pretty bloated but I’d rather have that issue then lack the utility/CC of the current iteration of Disc.
I think its the OCD, but I don’t like having empty main action bars.
Yeah, this is what I like about R-Sham. Ranged interrupt, aoe stun, single target stun, strong knockback, static field totem and polymorph(hex). Feels hard switching over to disc and not being able to “influence” the fight. You kinda feel more like an observer as a Disc priest. With R-Sham and Prevoker, you have a more active role in the fight.
I love the lore of Disc though. My favorite in the game, so I keep coming back to it.
