Disc Priest and Healing Meter

Some people say disc priests aren’t very good. Others swear they are awesome. One popular wow “pundit” guy in a Youtube video says that anyone judging Disc healing looking at healing meters is plain wrong because the true healing done by a disc priest doesn’t show on the healing meters. Would anyone care to comment on this discrepancy? And can anyone explain why “true” disc priest healing wont show up on meters? Obviously, the spell “Pain Suppression” is not going to show on meters, but is that it?

Because a disc priests strengths come from varying sources, not just hps. Dps on prog fights is a huge thing for the top end guilds. Damage mitigation via barrier and rapture. With a tight enrage timer or ability to push phases, a disc priests true value and Hpallys as well is hps, dps and damage reduction all in a neat bow.

Any idea or way to show how much “effective” healing a disc priest actually does? That is all dps aside.

Most meters will have most of the healing (I don’t know if they guess on absorbs are are accurate). The only difference would be Barrier.

But it’s early and since i’m not fully awake, I could be missing something.

I also don’t think details! Captures all of the dmg prevention. Checking it’s meters I usually see pw:s and barrier, but it doesn’t seem to show smites mitigation.

The Details! Add-on does include absorbs into healing meters while other add-on’s will sometimes separate healing from absorption shields—making them inaccurate. I believe this was the case with the add-on Recount for a long time. I am uncertain if they have changed that.

My guess is that it might be in reference to the add-on. Back when I used recount a few years ago I had a lot of trouble with it not showing my absorption shields (power word: shield)

Skada shows PW:S and the Smite absorb, but not Barrier or Pain Suppression (as they are damage reduction, not absorbs). Wowanalyzer can show damage reduction amounts.

Lenience also is a damage reduction, if talented. Of course Disc isn’t the only one with “unseen” benefits that don’t show up on the healing meter. Paladins also have AoE damage reduction, Resto Shaman can give health boosts, etc.
