Extremely new Disc player here. I’m wondering how people utilize the spell Penance.
- Do you primarily use it offensively or defensively?
- Do you use a mouseover macro for the spell?
2a) If you use a macro, do you have two separate versions of Penance on your skillbar? One mouseover for allies and either a regular version of the spell or offensive mouseover macro? Or do you somehow have them combined (maybe with a shift/control/alt modifier)?
Disc intimidates me, I think mostly because I’ve heard just how high of a skill cap it represents compared to other healers. Having said that I did hop into a +3 ML last night to practice it (literally zero experience with the spec) and it went extremely smoothly and I had a ton of fun playing it.
You want to use penance offensively most of the time as it deals tons of atonement healing
This is the mouseover I use:
/cast [@mouseover, nodead, exists][@target, nodead, exists][@player] penance
It casts penance on an ally if you mouse over them, on an enemy if an enemy is targeted, or yourself if no target.

Thank you! And thank you for this macro. Last night I was googling and went through a dozen or so webpages and couldn’t find a macro that was this simple and elegant. Lots of modifiers or people saying they used two separate macros.
Yea it took me forever to find this one, found it in some old reddit thread from a few years ago.

I use it both offensively and defensively in mythic plus but pretty much only offensively in raids. Like if your raiding and on the run away from the target then i can use it defensively , but otherwise. I use vuhdo so its shift right click and thats it
