I don’t like Shadow Priest or Evoker. I will have the standard questing gear as I am pretty new.
I want to start and do the entire DF quest line from 60 as either Disc or Holy. If specd correctly, do either of them do enough damage to solo effectively. I get that if I can heal myself I probably wont die, but I also want damage to be good enough where I can solo everything and where it doesn’t take way too long to kill things.
Or is there another healer spec that is great at DPS/Solo/WQ/Storyline etc… will also be doing PVP eventually.

Disc is known for being a healer that does good damage. Its damage is actually built in to heal teammates through atonement. I can’t speak on Holy, but I leveled 60-70 as disc and had a great time
While being bad for M+, and not so good raiding, Disc is quite good for questing. It is also pretty good in pvp. And if you have warmode on, it is alright, and if you know your kit, it can actually pwn one on one–assuming you dont go oom first–and assuming your gear is good.
I would qualify that by saying that my only comparisons are resto druid and evoker (and holy priest). I like it a lot better than resto druid–which is bad for questing in my view, and it is leaps more fun than evoker.
Is it? I thought it was a healer that was mistaken for having good damage because its damage provides healing.
I’ve taken this toon from 1 to 62 as disc, I didn’t like shadow either. While not super fast I haven’t had any issues. I did lean into the talent tree for some shadow talents for some extra damage though. Having just hit DF, getting the quest rewards gear has really helped with being able to take down groups of 3 without too much pain.
I play Holy for world content and also leveled as it and it’s pretty good. It’ll be even better after today’s update with being able to talent into AOE splash damage with Holy Fire because AOE damage was its weakpoint.
holy can out dps Disc but they cant do both at the same time, hoping that changes today
Disc needs huge DPS bump, on the bright side as Disc for question you can solo 5 man content, will take a bit but you seldome die.
I leveled a boost from 60-70 Holy with no issues, wasn’t the fastest but did good enough and then open world quests at 70 I did not really struggle.
I’d recommend holy for solo leveling and content.
Disc is known for dealing damage, but it’s limited because of the “hybrid tax”. By this I mean, because the damage you deal turns into healing the output is weaker to account for that added function.
Holy on the other hand has no crossover in the function of their damage spells. Therefore, their burst is higher.
Highly recommend holy if shadow isn’t your jam but you CAN use Disc if you prefer.
At the start of the expansion I mained shadow. For harder quests or elite mobs i’d go Disc because I couldn’t die. It just took a lot longer to kill stuff. As you know though you can’t kill anything if you’re dead yourself.
Great? No. Can it accomplish the task? Sure - I leveled my priest as Discipline through all of DF - took me a few days while doing random BGs as well
