Disc needs help

I think the spec got over nerfed in the beta. 5 man mythics are by far harder to heal as disc than any other healer spec period. Atonement heailng is weak and isn’t sufficient to keep a group up. Playing my other healing classes in mythic 0s feels waaay easier, it’s night and day really. I think the atonement transfer rate need to be upped to 70% in 5 mans if we can’t get a reversal on the damage nerfs. I mean at this point holy is doing more dps than disc… Also
atonements don’t last nearly long enough with out the azerite traits to buff them, especially pw:radiance. This needs to seriously be looked at.

Disc priest has always been like that. Disc priest starts to get strong with the increase of stats, as well as holy paladin.

um no sorry wrong. reread what i said plz.

Early in expansions and any time you PUG are bad times to be Disc. Disc relies on predictable damage that it can ramp/prepare for. When people are standing in stupid or unfamiliar with mechanics there will be large spikes of unpredictable damage, forcing Disc into triage, which they are by far the worst of the six healing classes at handling.

This has been the case with Disc ever since the re-work. There’s a reason their edge as a healing spec manifests at the very highest level of play. It’s where everyone knows what they’re doing. The average normal raider or fresh to heroics player who grabs Disc because it’s FOTM is going to have a terrible, terrible time.

Our haste is still low right now. And Shadowmend relies on spamming due to high output, fast cast time and our mastery. Also more haste = more smite/sear to fit in Sachism window.

Anyway in the future healing in 5 man will be ok, though if you compare to druid then yeah… Hey at least we can mass dispel Bursting and boost dps now. It won’t be garbage like Bfa that’s for sure.

Disc is fine.

I feel really strong in mythics as disc. Was tougher when I did them at 154 ilvl or so but still doable. Now that im 179 its cake

It never was completely sufficient on its own to keep a 5 man group up. It makes up the majority of your healing, but it doesn’t do it on its own. You’ll still shadowmend/shield/defensive penance in small group content, and how much you do that depends on your gear. In current content, I’m rarely needing to shadowmend anymore while on-par with the dungeon rewards.

This would be incredibly overpowered and would get nerfed right back.

Outside of EARLY BfA with hilariously overpowered Smites and Legion, it has been like this. If Holy is allowed to just sit and spam their damage, they will out-damage a Disc priest. But they never are since they have to hard cast at least double the amount.

No I mean holy is doing more dps while weaving in heals. Any way you crack it Disc is pretty weak in 5 mans atm. It’s throughput is far behind all of the other healing specs. Gear isn’t the issue, as I have an Ilvl of 181. My ilvl 170 shaman for instance has a far easier time in 5-mans. Anyone disputing this should really actually level the other healing specs and try them. Disc def isn’t fine in 5-mans by any stretch.

Edit:
This was a little snarky. But to be clear, I have leveled a Paladin, Priest and Shaman and played Disc, both Holy specs and Resto. There’s little to no difference in ‘trouble’ I’ve had in healing mythic 0s this xpac. When the tank and I were undergeared, it was hard to deal with them getting blasted on every one. But at 170 ilvl I can pretty much fall asleep in a dungeon on all 3 specs unless we pull extremely big or my DPS actually falls asleep inside an AoE.

I’m almost full epic gear sitting at 182 ilevel and I agree with the OP, they wen’t over board nerfing us, it’s extremely more difficult to heal as disc vs any other healer right now.

I do think atonement could do with a bump. Most of the mythics are not too bad once you get geared but I do agree it is way easier as holy.

Even at 182 ilvl it is much harder to deal with sanguine depths and plaguefall than it is on other healers.

I’ve been healing a lot of mythics as Disc and I absolutely love it. It’s one of my favorite things to do in this game. I feel very strong as a disc healer and I never drop below 2/3 mana.

I think you’re probably just doing it wrong. It’s really easy to play disc incorrectly, I see it all the time when I dps with a pug disc healer.

I don’t really understand how.

I sincerely don’t mean this in an insulting way, but even PuG mythics I don’t have to focus at all on Disc to heal well. There has to be something going wrong in your play if you’re having significantly more trouble with disc than any other healer. Honestly Holy Pally is a lot harder right now from what I’ve played, and even they aren’t really struggling.

Shaman is super strong right now, it has the highest carry potential. Tho I suspect it will get nerf soon.

I’m not having trouble, but there is a lot of people complaining about disc, maybe we gonna get some buffs next tuesday?

It feels weak because we dont have any haste right now. It will get a lot better when we get more haste with better gear. The spec is fine as it is now.

No buffs mate. They were nerfed for good reason. IF SS is widely used in heroic week and is too strong, that too will get the nerf bat. God i hope so

Shammies are a lot of fun right now and super easy to play. So many tools.
