Hi all. My main is shadow (thus my covenant is Necrolord) but I occasionally play disc as my off spec. I didn’t have much trouble healing most of the dungeons except the aforementioned 2, specifically the last boss of each.
As you all know, disc does most of the healing via atonement transfer. However, in, say, Plaguefall, the last boss has an “intermission” where the boss is untargetable. You and your teammates are still taking massive tick damage from the boss’ DOT/adds. Chain healing with Shadowmend is not possible as you have the dodge the tentacles (in m10+, the tentacle slam can kill you in 1 shot). Slapping a PW:Shield does very little to nothing and you have no enemy that you can dps to do atonement transfer. I popped a Rupture that usually allow us to survive the first intermission, but on the 2nd or 3rd, there is very little I can do to keep my teammates alive.
Similar problem occurs during the last boss fight in SoA (Devos). During the “grab the spear” phase, there is absolutely nothing that you can dps to do the atonement transfer.
Any good disc priest out there can share some lights? Thanks
Disc is not worth playing with Necrolord, very low healing.
In PF there are the little adds that you can shoot.
In Soa, your group has to grab orbs fast. Smend can sustain enough.
Stradama’s main damage is from the plague rain. You should be using radiance/burst damage to heal it up, and dispel a target you’re worried about (I’ll generally dispel whoever’s lowest and if we’re relatively the same, I’ll dispel myself).
You can also drop a barrier while rain is going on to limit its damage, and use Rapture to block a decent chunk of it.
When Stradama goes back into the pool, most people should be at or near full health unless you failed to burst heal the rain back up. Use the adds, penance radiance and shadowmend to top off while she’s in it, though.
SoA, just make sure you’re topped off before the phase, and use shadowmend/radiance as needed during it. You can also mass dispel the wind debuff (as that’s the only damage going out) when everyone gets back to the spear.

This. Don’t dispel the dot immediately. Only use it to dispel people that are getting low health.

If you mass dispel that debuff will it go back on if that phase hasnt ended yet, like when waiting for the spear to be thrown?
It’s a stacking debuff - at one stack, it’s generally not too dangerous. If people have gotten more stacks either because the phase took a while, or they ran through black spots, mass dispel resets stacks to 0.
And yeah, you do it once everyone’s back at the middle and stacked near the spear. You might get another stack or two, but you can heal those through standard damage as the boss comes back down. If the spear gets missed, it still lowers the damage in the later parts of the phase (though technically you could have held mass through the rest of the phase). But really, if the spear missed, you’re in a very bad situation on a higher key anyway.
I mass dispel usually when the spears being thrown or when she’s coming down. It depends on how much damage is going out. If people miss spears then you basically have to mass dispel and pray you can survive through another phase.
Dispell yourself for plaguefall juice and if you have any monks or other priests in the group they can help there. Its definitely one of the hardest mechanics for disc.
But the idea is dispell and heal through P1 or Rapture if you wanna play it safe since this fight doesn’t really require rapture. P2 gotta use your AOE barrier. And P3 try to lust and spot heal. Don’t bother with power word shield for that part IMO. If its tyranical you should have rapture up for p3 though.
SOA i feel like you gotta have an offheals or go shadow covenant unfortunately
The last boss at PF is done this way.
The first rain, you ask everyone to move in and put up a barrier.
The second rain, you have your group use heal pots, off heal, and use defensives like Aspect of the Turtle, Ice Block etc. You can also rapture the second one for extra help.
I have tried to spam shadowmend, but that is really, really hard. Also, don’t listen to anyone telling you to radiance. That is a joke.
Also, you can dispel one person–so do yourself, and some tanks like monk tanks with Detox, at least, can also dispel themselves. I think all of them can, but am not sure.
In my experience you explain your strat to the group before they key is used. You get everyone on the same page. Note however that I got booted once for speaking up and was told they are bringing a healer to be healed through it. I think though, that groups that do that would probably be ones that are clueless in the first place, so being booted from them is probably a good thing. In fact, after this one instance where i was booted I stopped mentioning anything at the get go, and that turned out badly. Hence, I went back to explaining the plan, and with good groups they already knew what I was dealing with so were very compliant and cooperative.
Good luck.
As for SOA, be sure to tell everyone to dodge the discs. I use rapture myself for that part–pretty much for right after the spear has hit the boss. I also use shadowmend, pw:shield, and penance while dodging the discs. But there are a lot of factors that play into how you handle the damage and debuffs. I rely on my experience to judge and am both pre-emptive and reactive.
Last boss PF, rapture barrier and shadowfiend. You can use PI also to get out some fast shadowmend spams. PWR with the conduit is fine and in my view in keys you should be running it.
Dispel yourself but wait until the cast is done else it will reapply and you have wasted the dispel.
