Disable World Buffs in Raids

I know there’s many threads out there that echo this sentiment but I wanted throw my hat in here again and try to consolidate some arguments.

The Meta that exists today is not the Vanilla experience. The two main arguments to keep the world buffs in their current state are:

  1. World buffs existed in Vanilla, and people used them!
  2. They’re optional don’t use them.
  • Yes they existed and surely people used them to help with progression. However, with the servers being triple the population they used to be, and with the Meta being competitive raid clears / dps, there is a HUGE discrepancy in the amount of world buffs that are being gathered and how they are used. We see many raids today having 20+ people FULLY buff capped going into raids. This wasn’t the case back in vanilla and has caused a lot downgrades from the vanilla experience.

We now see:

  • People logging off for days to save their buffs and or to stack them properly. No longer playing the game.
  • People making priest alts for the sole purpose of griefing other peoples by dispelling buffs without any intent of actual PvP
  • Hundreds of guilds clearing entire 40 man raids in under 30min
  • Content being cleared within LITERAL MINUTES upon release.
  • Entire boss mechanics being completely ignored because everyone kills everything so fast. (Remember Ragnoros has a Son’s phase?)

Despite the griefing and people not playing the game to save their buffs; World Buffs has nerfed the already nerfed content of WoW Classic into oblivion. Without world buffs the raids take longer because you actually have to do some of the mechanics of the fight and the fights have the chance to become engaging again.

I think an easy solution would be to simply disable them from Raid Encounters. Not strip them, just disable them. If after the raid encounter you want to use your 32 buffs , find some healer friends and be your own raid boss in PVP, you’re welcome to.

tldr; Yes another thread about this. World Buffs are not just causing grief within the community, they are numbing the end game content, removing the struggle and challenge we all faced back in Vanilla.

Don’t use them?

That’s their choice and some people are just raid loggers. Even if people weren’t staying off to save their buffs, do you think tht suddenly they would start playing the game? And do what, exactly? There’s not much of an end-game in classic besides raid log.

What is “actual pvp”? As long as it’s one player vs. another, it’s PVP in my eyes. That’s the defition of PVP, and that’s what those players are doing. If people don’t like that, they are welcome to roll on a PVE server.

Why is this a problem and how does are other guilds affecting you?

You do realize that people cleared Ragnaros below level capped, right? The game just isn’t hard, whether there are world buffs or not.

Once again, classic is a solved game, this is inevitable.

All in all, use them if you want to, or don’t. It will not change.

People that need the world buffs won’t keep them and the people that keep them don’t need them. The raids can take care of themselves.

There is a super easy solution to this.

You want to raid without world buffs, don’t get them. If you accidently get them, well I heard you can even right click them off.

“i wanna play the game in a way and want everybody to play in that way too”

dont wanna raid with wbuff? dont get it
your guild requires you to get it? create a guild of your own that dont ask for wbuff

The goal of Classic was not to recreate your memories of vanilla, it was to recreate the vanilla client. Part of the attraction of having vanilla servers is to see what we could do within that rule set with all the experience we have gained since.

Re-engineering the game world to try and force the end result to match our vanilla experiences will not work, wasn’t the point, and will never happen.

This would require an immense amount of player coordinated efforts to even attain some semblance, and that won’t happen on a macro scale on all servers, but it can take place within guilds.

Nothing about that forces people to min max.

People who don’t like min maxxing need to stop enabling it by joining their groups/guilds.

That said things like adding the 30 dungeons per day are completely inline with vanilla.

I’m not a fan of world buffs but it is what it is. This is the game now so I get my buvvs and go with the flow.

If it’s any consolation:

(1) I don’t think world buffs will be as prevalent in Naxx due to the nature of the raid itself. They’ll still be there, but I don’t think it’ll be as much of a thing

(2) Seems like TBC will eventually be here and world buffs will be a thing of the past (barring a few inconsequential zone buffs if I remember correctly)

Only one version of WoW features world buffs like this. Enjoy them or don’t, that’s Classic.

I cant wait to see what the new topic of whining will be in TBC Classic since theres no world buffs there…

I imagine it will be something about Arena right? This stuff always stems from someone getting owned in PvP…

“I got my world buffs dispelled so REMOVE THEM FROM THE GAME!”

We will see I suppose.

you an idiot for thinking that they should remove world buff on raids… It not even that easy to get world buff and if you die once its gone. You can still get wipe even with world buff and once that first wipe happens , all the buffs are gone , dont know why youre complaining about clearing raids faster when 30-1hr per raid with buffs seems pretty reasonable lol.

Let’s remove your racials in raids too, hell while we’re at it no consumables or any buff or even gear is allowed in raids so everyone can play on a level playing field

In vanilla we used world buffs to down a difficult boss for the first or second time. We didn’t feel we needed to keep getting them after that point. But they existed back then and people used them back then.

Now that parsing creates competition and gives people something else to strive for and keep playing this game, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. TBC will eliminate and streamline buffing a lot more which I know a lot of people look forward to.

In vanilla it also took players 154 days to kill rag

Times have changed and along with it the playerbase. What was once the norm no longer is and nothing blizzard does can change the fact that we’re playing a 15yr old game that has no surprises left in it.

My guild cleared Ragnaros before Sons in Vanilla also, after about 3-4 submerge clears

Don’t use world buffs. Don’t look at parses. Did you defeat the mean dragon boss? VICTORY! Why do you need to measure your epeen against another to feel successful? If you won, you won. If they won, who cares? They did it faster, so what? How does that impact you?

People feel bad that they don’t have the same fancy numbers as folks who go nuts over the game. That’s your problem, not theirs.

All the hurt feels are because people feel like they don’t measure up to the next group. Stop measuring and all that angst goes away.

Start changing things and people will go back to private servers.
