What kind of code would I be looking for…and where…to stop an addon from spamming to chat?

If I were in your shoes I would try to guess which of my addons was the culprit the context of what was written and under what circumstances it was written. Then do a trial and error process of disabling half the possible addons and see if disappears, repeat disabling/enabling until I narrow down to the addon. It’s possible that the addon has settings you can change to remove the undesirable messaging.
Keep in mind that if it’s not coming from you, you don’t really have control over it. You can turn off all say/yell/emote text in a chat channel, right click the chat tab and select settings. On the Chat tab you can deselect types of Player Messages but its all or nothing.
