Direction Audio Issue

Whenever I face away from a character who is talking to me in dialog their sound gets mumbling and I cant understand what they are saying.
Its exactly how the person in this thread describes it: Can't turn off directional audio? - #6 by Tureja-malygos

I have W11 up to date
Normal speaker Audio
Distance Filtering OFF
Sound Channel and Sound Cache MAX

Sound is fine in every other game.

What type of audio device?

Sony Active Speaker System SRS-D5. Nothing special just 2 speakers and a subwoofer.

Those are just the speakers.

What is the audio device on the computer that is sending sound to the speakers?

Im not sure if this is the correct thing but what I can find is called Realtek(R) Audio.
Driver is up to date.

Probably need to visit the site for your motherboard and look for newer audio drivers. Windows can rarely update those properly.

Its from 2019 and the motherboard one would be from 2021. But holy **** this realtek driver is a COMPLETE disaster. You get stuck in this infinite uninstall restart loop and even with some googling I couldn’t figure out how to fix this crap. Manually deinstalling beforehand etc. all doesn’t work. The driver keeps being from 2019.

Thanks for the effort but I am absolutely not gonna bother with this crap again. What a COMPLETE DISASTER. And im not a PC noob at all but this is just too much for me right now holy F.

DDU might help.

There might also be some motherboard or Realtek software that would allow you to adjust spatial sound.

try this … install / run Driver Booster from IObit. this program will find the lastest drivers (most dated 2022) ie display drivers ,audio, <need pro version for more drivers like game drivers (Microsoft Visual C++ - Microsoft XNA Framework - microsoft NETFramework - OpenAL (open audio library) unlike the windows update will insatll older drivers or don’t install them

I do not recommend Driver Booster. It’s a great way to end up with multiple competing copies of drivers for your hardware. Stick with direct downloads from manufacturers only.

It could be the spatial audio setting or 7.1 surround sound. If you turn these off it disables the directional audio I believe. That might solve the issue.

Appreciate the replies. I couldn’t test it much but when I was in Bastion today the characters dialog when you click them didn’t seem to have this issue anymore. I need to try it when dialogue gets played in quest chains and stuff. Driver is still the same from before though.

Edit: Seems the issue is gone now and has been resolved by reinstalling the audio driver provided by windows. It is the exact same version but the sound is no longer there.

I’ve noticed something with the sound in game also. It started happening about a week ago or maybe 2?

I first thought maybe I accidently turned down the volume knob on my headphones cord, but I hadn’t.

Overall, the sound volume in game sounds like it’s gotten turned down with no input changes on my part.

As I play I notice intermittent sounds all of a sudden are “normal volume” that I’d expect. I haven’t paid attention to who/what (NPC, mob, etc) or where I hear them versus how my character is located, but I’ll try to pay more attention to see if I can pinpoint how it occurs.

I play Wow on a truly ancient toaster, with settings at minimum - I don’t bother updating drivers for fear the toaster will implode. As long as the game still loads I’m good
