Diminishing returns on secondaries and MW

Gl stacking your mastery lol, your gear isnt going to be as good as other peoples gear just due to the fact that your mastery is going to be high to start off with and the diminishing returns are going to gimp it right off the bat.

I was curious to see how this diminishing return will affect our poor mastery. Mastery already sucks how much more could they bring it down? Its like kicking some1 when they’re already down.

Diminishing return is based on rating for mastery not percentage.

Good that problem is solved. Almost thought our mastery was going to be bad for a second.

LOL
Was a good joke. /clap for pyro

Thats not how i read it.

This penalty is as follows:

  • From 0 to 25% , there’s no penalty .

  • From 25% to 34% , there’s a 10% penalty .

  • From 34% to 42% , there’s a 20% penalty .

  • From 42% to 49% , there’s a 30% penalty .

  • From 49% to 106% , there’s a 40% penalty .

  • You can’t get more than 106% from gear rating.

Seems percentage based from me, 1000 rating right now gives my MW 66% and my WW 29%.

“Note that for Mastery, we are talking about Mastery Points instead of percentages, since every class has a different conversion of Mastery Points to Mastery%.”

Technically speaking it’s all from ratings, it’s just mastery doesn’t cleanly move from points to percentages at similar ratings between classes.

Cool, thanks for clarifying that.

Does anyone know how to figure out at how much mastery rating do we start to see diminishing returns? In simple terms?

Yep! Diminishing returns starts at 30 Mastery Points. Each Mastery Point is 35 Mastery Rating, so you will need 1,050 Mastery Rating before you start to see diminished effects.

I’ve converted the diminishing returns information from Wowhead to actual mastery ratings for you:

  • From 0 to 1050 Mastery Rating, there’s no penalty.
  • From 1050 to 1365, there’s a 10% penalty.
  • From 1365 to 1645, there’s a 20% penalty.
  • From 1645 to 1890, there’s a 30% penalty.
  • From 1890 to 2310, there’s a 40% penalty.
  • From 2310 to 4410, there’s a 50% penalty.

Also remember that the penalty is progressive, so the penalties only apply to the mastery ratings in that particular bucket. For example, if you have 1365 Mastery Rating, you will get the full benefit of the first 1050 Mastery Rating (because it’s in the first bucket), and 90% of the benefit of the remaining 315 Mastery Rating (because it’s in the second bucket).

Hope that helps!

Mastery points means very little how much rating is that for each spec?

Sorry but I dont believe your numbers, onnly 249 mastery rating before diminishing returns? That cant be possible.

Stoggz numbers are much more believable, from what I was talking to people in my guild about, 1050 rating seems more reasonable before seeing diminishing returns. Im at 820 so theres no way its 249

gotcha, I did some reading and I was wrong, mastery points are something completely different from mastery percent in the ui. every class has a 35 rating -> 1 mastery point conversion, some classes and specs just have different mastery point to mastery percent conversions(what’s seen in the ui). That would mean for all specs the diminishing returns wouldn’t start until 1050 mastery rating from gear. Stoggz is entirely correct.

Woops! I was typing up a reply to try to explain it better, then I saw your post.

Admittedly, it is a somewhat convoluted system that the game doesn’t really explain, so I definitely get the confusion.
