With how esoteric and eldritch the Old Gods are, it’s really disappointing that one of their bosses is no different really from just a run of the mill demon commander from the Burning Legion. You would think a Void Lord would be more mind boggling and not just a different flavor of fel.
Can you extrapolate on that? Because Void =/= Fel. And personally, I find the “Void = Eyeballs and Tentacles” super boring and altogether unrelated.
In DnD, the Outer Realms (i.e. where Eldritch horrors come from) and the Negative Energy Plane (i.e. equivalent to the Void) are two entirely separate things, and trying to mash them together feels weird and stilted like if we decided all Druidic magic were based in the Light because the Light heals things.
The Void was always eyeballs and tentacles. It was always more like the Far Realms; it definitely was never an equivalent to the Plane of Negative Energy.
I feel like a shoe is going to drop that the olds gods are almost entirely different from void lords and their counterparts in terms of both nature and ideals. As it stands, it feels like void lords are just giant oversized energy vampires…which I guess checks out for the cosmic power about consumption but like you can make this way more interesting still. I.E. : Adaptation and mimicry through consumption.
This isn’t his full form we’re fighting though, it’s still a fraction of what he is.

I think he’s fine. Human cruelty is mind boggling. Dimensius just wants to eat Azeroth to make himself stronger. I like the simplicity of it. He knows who he is and is pure and nonconflicted. He’s 1990s male Oprah. If they made him more interesting or even more sadistic they would humanize him and I don’t think that’s the goal idk.
Essentially a force of nature.
Dimensius doesn’t even know Azeroth exists.
That doesn’t change him being boring and just a sized up Void Walker. Like he was in Burning Crusade.
That’s kinda my point. Azeroth is just a Tim Horton’s Timbit to somebody like that. I think he’s supposed to ‘let us down’ in a way. The charm-and-harm thing is more Xalatath’s style and characters that are “weaker” and more “humane.”
I’m too disillusioned at this point to care.
It’s a big butt voidwalker. Same as it was in TBC, just even bigger and with more sparkles.
Stop making excuses for them and you’ll realize how ridiculous that statement is in all forms of fiction.
I mean the old gods were eyeballs and tentacles
Void was generally more purple mist
And making him Galactus with the serial numbers filed off doesn’t make him more interesting or compelling.
A what?!
When they decided the Void was a separate thing from the Twisting Nether, and that Shadow Priests were Void aligned, they spent several expansions making that heavily Old God themed.
Void is tentacles and eyeballs.
The fight itself looks like it’s going to be insane though, curious to see how it all ends on Tuesday
Hasn’t the lore always been that the Old Gods were the creation ofthe Void Lords and were sent out into the normal realms to turn worlds to the void? (or something akin to that)
it just makes no sense.
void lord and his agents are void elementals… but they created the old gods and sent them throughout the cosmos to corrupt world souls.
old gods really feel like they should maybe just be part of the life cosmic tree, since that really is what they do. Think of the old god consumed planet we saw… it was basically infected with living matter, absolutely consumed by the old god entirely. this seems more in line with life cosmic force… since void, fel, death and light all behave very primal and ancient why shouldnt life… why does the life cosmic force simply happy with mortals and living creatures existing instead of having this inate desire to make ALL of reality life.
I feel like no one here understands the different types of Void entities that have existed since day one of this game and their purpose within the Void.
So… here you go.
