The entire system using totems and clicking the piles of dirt or whatever is clunky as hell. there was already a system in place for archeology but for some reason Blizz decided to not use it. It’s buggy and not fun content at all and it all feels like it’s filler content until the next patch/expac is ready… seriously blizz… 0 out of 10
This isn’t the worst thing ever, but I must say I’m not really impressed. Still, I’ll snag the rewards when able.
Yeah, really not sure why this isn’t just Dragon Isles Archaeology, like every other profession they have reworked.
bro, this is worse then normal archaeology. What a waste of manpower on this garbage.
I think that if it was a proper Archaeology revamp that served a purpose outside of the weekly quest (and you seem to only get the max rewards on your first character, too…) then I might be more of a fan. But this is just another weekly chore that will last 5 minutes and then that’ll be that. It was a missed opportunity, in my opinion.
It also doesn’t help that the big dig thing is a bit more chaotic than it needs to be. “Sort that rock with the other rocks!” but there’s no real indication as to where. Like, really? lol It could be a UI bug, but it didn’t leave the best first impression.
How is it possible you have so much PTR testing and half these quests are horribly bugged? (I can’t even get the goggles from the NPC to do the World Quest in Zaralek, and those who were lucky enough to, the third item is not where the goggles tell them, it’s somewhere else entirely). Then the excavating quest in Zaralek is completely broken at the “big dig” stage. Then there was the quest way before these that EVERYONE’S progress counted together, so if one person failed, it would reset to 0%.
On top of that, the mechanics used to excavate are HORRIBLE. Like, the worst game mechanic you’ve ever added to this game. Half the time the totem has to be resummoned cause it can’t be clicked, another half of the time the elemental is on top of the totem so it can’t be clicked. Then there’s the goggle one which is stupid cause it only tells you which direction to go once you’re close to the object, when it should be doing it at all times.
Yeah, the whole goggle thing is the worst hot and cold mini game I’ve ever played. At least the old archaeology marker pointed you in the right direction. And even the audio cues don’t kick in until the arrow starts working. I’m not saying it’s broken beyond repair, but it definitely needed more time in the oven.
I agree. It’s like the first iteration of archaeology the drew up and then came up with a better version. I got through the initial “here, try these out” quests and that’s a wrap for me.
Succinctly accurate description.
On point, this exactly
I wonder how many are actually aware of the audio cues as well, because they are actually kinda subtle. lol I feel like those should be going off the whole time.
Slightly off topic: They finally fixed the Orc weapon bug where their weapons would clip inward and through their cloaks. Well, I’ll always celebrate the small victories in life. It’s not all bad.
We traded Archaeology for… whatever this garbage is? The quests don’t even work properly. I watched tons of people give up on “The Body on the Banks” because the quest was so buggy people couldn’t complete it.
Who at Blizzard thought randomly clicking on a totem with zero sense of progression, you just keep clicking until something happens, was better than the Archaeology system we had and they abandoned for zero reason?
This entire patch is a waste of effort, only Dragonflight everywhere is good and that was just a lazy oversight to begin with.
Please fire the people that designed these quests. Because it’s not fun at all, I call it frustrating. I’ll come back to them at some stage when/if you fix them. Until then make sure they are Fired immediately.
I agree that, in general, the old Archaeology system was easier to use. The goggles wouldn’t be so bad if they started putting out the little tracer arrow thing immediately. Once you’re close enough for the hot/cold system to kick in it’s not terrible, but a had a heck of a time figuring out what I had to do when I did the goggle intro quest. It could have even been combined with the old Archaeology system - throw down a survey scope to guide you closer to the artifact, then use the goggles to zero in on it.
The totem digs weren’t terrible, but the big dig I had to do in Ohn’aharan Plains took forever. It seemed like it kept bugging out, and I’m still not certain I didn’t complete it simply because I got lucky.
I also don’t understand why we’re not getting Archaeology skill with this.
It was so frustrating. Empowering the elemental and then juggling between that and an alternate element, just to keep some insane balance that made no sense? Who was the idiot that designed this?! The goggles by comparison weren’t as bad, but they sure weren’t that great either. It made me miss ESO’s scrying!
I would love to Dig Into the Dragon Isles with the Azerothian Archives if the quests all didn’t bug out lol, even for a minor patch, this is the worst we’ve had in a long time.
It could always be worse. It could be the B.E.L.F.I.E. patch all over again. But I am kind of underwhelmed, too.
This is the exact some click and fill a bar garbage sub-mobile game level content that has littered the open world throughout all of Dragonflight. I thought this one was going to be a short but structured piece of content but no, it’s another F- zone “Event”. Why is this expac so bereft of anything to do for world content?
I did the event- don’t need archeology to do. But its one I personally wont be wasting my time on. Transmogs are Archeology gear, mounts cost 200,000 mystery fragments and the quest is weekly. Can do it all day like the Pot and Bloom but mounts really arent nothing special looking much like many of the transmogs in Dragon Isles expansion. I feel like they didnt want to bother to come up with cool looking stuff, its ddated back to Vanilla lack of designing ideas . Event works similar to the Tuskarr cooking pot where everyone has to do tasks to fill the bar. I see this concept dying out fairly quickly - only people who will really do it are the Mount/Pet, maybe transmog collectors. Waste of time in my opinion even for a Filler event.
The only?
Wow, I guess I need to cancel my sub then.
