Did you learn nothing from the massive drop in player counts with Ulduar hard modes? Or the even bigger drop that came with heroic Cataclysm raids? How about the failure that was SoM? The casual players who play Classic WoW do not enjoy being denied access to BiS gear; they do not enjoy “progression” raiding; they do not enjoy being forced into long pre-BiS gear grinds to participate in raids.
Keep your difficulty modes in retail where they belong. Classic raids are meant to be easy and serve as a vehicle to spend time with your friends and feel like you are on an adventure. They were made easy in the original game for a reason. The historical change in playerbase attitudes and player counts as the game focused more on action and difficulty and less on RPG mechanics is clear.
I do not have the time or gold to farm a fire resistance set and I do not enjoy long nights of progression raiding. It has already been difficult keeping up with the gear farm for my standard set, especially with the broken economy and difficult to obtain runes. This change has killed SoD for me and driven me back to era.
“We do not wish to gate exclusive rewards behind this challenging content. Because this boss will be tricky and require progression through the rest of Molten Core on the highest difficulty, the boss will NOT drop unique or exclusive loot. Instead, he will drop tier gear tokens and a chance at a few other exciting items, but all gear can be obtained elsewhere in the Molten Core.”
My troll, you should read the blue post before you complain about it, because you are making yourself look bad.
I did read that post and am aware the new boss does not drop unique items. Nowhere in my post did I say that it does. I said it was simply new content that players are being denied access to if they don’t do the hardest difficulty.
It has three difficulty modes. Check out the blue post.
Since I made this post, they have clarified that the “additional items” available on the hardest mode are purely cosmetic, which is great, as BiS isn’t locked behind that. The thing that still sits wrong with me is the additional drops on “medium” difficulty and the new boss only being available on the hardest mode. IMO difficulty modes don’t belong in an RPG at all as they are very “gamey” and players feel pressured into engaging in an endless difficulty treadmill.
the fights are there for players who actually want hard content to do with optional challenge boss to test yourself on. It was meant to be hard if you don’t want to do hard content guess what? You don’t have to, the new boss was only added to give people a challenge boss not another loot pinata.
I think an endless difficulty treadmill can have a place in an mmorpg. I just never liked the idea of raids being challenging content.
Like if you’re genna do that you’re better off doing ff14 style raids where you just load into a boss fight after your que pops. (I don’t even consider these raids)
To me raids should always just be a long attunement process, a long journey, gathering of many people who also made this journey, and you finally get there and you pop your loot piñata.
People may quit in WOTLK or Cata if they are done farming the normal gear and can’t progress in the heroic version. Not to mention the normal equivalent gear in those instances can be gotten outside of raid too, via emblems or crafted items.
